Book Description

A breathtakingly exciting SAS autobiography packed with incident and drama.

Product Description

Even by SAS standards Mike Curtis has had a remarkable career. A former coal miner and likely Welsh international, he served with 2 Para in the Falklands before going on to join the SAS.

In C.Q.B. he describes his gruelling experience in the Falklands and also focus on two more of his major SAS operations; the first in Iraq where he spent several weeks behind enemy lines; the second in Bosnia where he worked closely with all factions and latterly led a close protection team guarding visiting heads of State.

Goose Green, the first land battle of the Falklands conflict, was the longest, hardest-fought, and most controversial. The outcome there was to set the tone for the remainder of the war, affect international opinion and the morale and determination of both armies.

The SAS infiltrated Iraq in two guises - as road-watch patrols and mobile fighting columns. Constituting the biggest SAS overland fighting force since the Second World War, Mike Curtis's troop constituted a coherent, mobile weapon able to operate round the clock and defend itself against surprise attack.

C.Q.B. is also the first published account of the SAS's activities in former Yugoslavia by a Close Quarter Battle Specialist and John Major's personal bodyguard.

An excellent account of his 15 year career in the military. From his roots in the Rhondda Valley as a miner to the Falklands at Goose Green with the Paras; to Iraq as a member of the SAS. This book operates at many levels. It gives the reader a good insight into the Selection process and the continuous training these men undergo to be the Elite of Elite. Mikes' combat experience really hits home to anyone who thinks that they could join the SAS. This is for real, combat is an experience I feel none of us can begin to understand unless you have served. This bok helps me visualise the pain that s war from a soldiers viewpoint. Friends can be lost as quickly as they are made. As a kid I remember seeing the Falklands on TV. To read about someone like Mike who was there really is an eye opener. As is the whole of the book, truly compelling. I feel priviledged to have shared his experiences....

What a good book . I have read many SF books and this is up as one of the best ones as it shows the difficulties in balancing army life with your home life eg marriage. I have great respect for people like mike who have risked so much for us. Very good book.

WOW! What A Book! 12 Oct 2001
By Anon
Format:Paperback
I have read 90% of the SAS books out there and this one rates as one of the best. Mike Curtis has seen more in a day than most men will see in a lifetime. He manages to convey the emotion of being in the Army better than any other author I have seen. On numerous occassions you will find yourself upset for Mike and other men serving our country. It also has a section on Bosnia which most SAS books don't detail. I haven't stopped reading it since I brought it. It makes you proud to have such a man representing your country... Buy this book you will love it and it lets you give something back (in terms of royalties) to a man that has given and sacraficed so much!

One of the better SAS Trooper's stories
This was a very enjoyable read. The author manages to outline the training and exploits of the SAS without making it sound like he think's he's some kind of superman. Read more
