4.0 out of 5 stars Lewis's essays 1 Sep 2011
By RR Waller TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Paperback
The following section headings, each sub-divided into roughly ten essays each, give a rapid insight into the range of writing:
English and Literature
The Art of Writing and the Gifts of Writers
Education and History
Philosophical Writing
Some Everyday Thoughts
Short Stories.

Although each essay is fascinating, the first two sections with essays on "The Hobbit", "Lord of the Rings" - two books by his great friend and fellow Inkling, and "On Three Ways of Writing for Children", were my reason for buying the book. They lead me to the others. Lewis is a very clear writer who uses his Language with great care of someone who studies it, making him a pleasure to read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wisdom 20 Jan 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
What you get from anything by CS Lewis is beautifully written, thought provoking wisdom from start to finish. and this is the best single collection of his work available. It would accompany me to a desert island. You can't seem to order it as a hardback from an ordinary high street bookstore any more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Always good 5 Jan 2013
By Judith S. Grigg - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
These essays can be found in other works, but I always buy anything I come across by Lewis and I am never disappointed. I had read these before, but his works, for me, always reveal new insight regardless of how familiar one is with them.
