Needs rewriting,

I own a number of easy steps books as I tend to find them a good stepping stone for new languages. This book is very poor. Way too much emphesis on the flashy aspects of visual c#, but does not build a solid understanding of the structure or language first. The author tried to cover way too much in a book that was way too short. It badly needed more example code. If you are new to c# i would recommend you buy the microsoft visual c# step by step first/instead.

I used this book from a novice, and although I have a programming background, found it extremely easy to understand and use.
The main draw-back, and it's a pretty major one, is that it is a book based on Visual c# 2003...and there have been 2005 & 2008 since then! It doesn't go into any advanced stuff, but it's deffinatly good if you want something to teach you the basics. James

I agree with the previous reviewer - the book concentrates far too much on Visual Studio and how to make attractive user interfaces. Whilst good interface design is, of course, an important skill to learn it should be taught after you have learned the building blocks of the language.I develop software mainly in C, C++, Java and PHP but wanted to extend my knowledge to include the 'new kid on the block' - C#. This book didn't provide what I wanted - there is nothing about data structures or information about the many non-graphical Objects built in to the .NET platform. If you want to jump in and build Windows GUI's then this is probably quite a good book, but as an introduction to C# I feel it misses out a lot of very basic information. Basically, if you already know the basics of C# and want to build GUI's then this is a good book for you. If you're new to programming or want to learn the syntax of C# then this probably isn't the best book for you to invest in.
