4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, but basic knowledge of C++ Builder required, 20 July 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: C++ Builder How-to (Paperback)
OK this is a really good book, but to be able to use it, a really good foundation knowledge of how C++ builder works is required. It asumes the user is already familier with the language and works to solve problems which the user may not find through beginner books.

5.0 out of 5 stars Usually Uniquely Useful, 11 April 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: C++ Builder How-to (Paperback)
I have been using this book for several years and it has very often described how to do something new that I needed to do; the descriptions are always clear and practical; and very often the information was not available anywhere else; neither in the BCB online help, nor in other, longer and more expensive, books.

4.0 out of 5 stars A very good book with many sophisticated advanced topics, 5 Mar 2001
By
Susanne S. Schaefer "Susanne Schaefer" (Irvine, CA, USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: C++ Builder How-to (Paperback)
This book is suitable for the medium to advanced level programmer aspiring to become a "C++ guru".

It has a lot of very difficult topics. But once you work through the chapters and understand them you can program custom web browsers, email clients and tackle profi topics like intercepting Windows system messages and customizing some of Windows's built-in functionality.

The only negative remark is that you may experience problems using the enclosed CD if you have a different version of C++ than the book is aimed at, for example when trying to install the enclosed Bison or Delphi software, getting this to work may require major adjustments.
