Art With Play Value 18 Sept. 2012
By vamommy - Published on
Format: Paperback Verified Purchase
The dolls and their wardrobe can be described as nothing short of art. They are beautifully rendered with fantastic detail.

Included are two dolls, Emperor Justinian and Empress Theodora. The dolls are large, occupying the height of almost the entire page. The size allows minute details to be shown.

Be aware, the dolls and their clothes do not punch out, but must be painstakingly cut. My 7 year old needed a lot of help and in truth I did most of the cutting myself. Both of us enjoyed the wonderful backstories provided about each outfit.

The outfits themselves come in matching pairs on each page with one for the Emperor and one for his wife. My daughter was enchanted by the matching themed outfits.

The paper is not cardstock, but it is thick enough, a highly quality and heavy weight, and fairly durable for paper.

We are homeschooling and planning on studying Byzantine HIstory next year. These seem like they will make a great addition to our curriculum! There are even
descriptions for each fashion plate which would make a great fashion show! Each outfit is colorful and brilliant in detail.

Tim Tierney does it again, crafting a beautiful set of paper dolls. The designs are brilliant, colorful and rich, and there's a good dose of history, too! His art has long been a favorite of mine.

This was a gift that the receiver requested. She was an Art History major and related that she really enjoyed getting them.
