The light has adjustment for both duration of time on and light sensitivity, although this does mean it takes time to set up. The PIR sensitivity is very good. The recommended fitting height is 1.8 to 2m but I have mine at 2.3m (i.e. over the door) and they still work fine. The casing is really designed for a short bulb but will take larger ones. I am using large 20W energy saving bulbs which do partially extend up into the top but this doesn't detract significantly from their effectiveness. The unit has a switched live (LS) terminal as well as live, neutral and earth. This enables the light to be wired to have an over-ride switch to turn it on - although this isn't shown in the installation instructions. Overall the light is good value considering the low price.

Overall this is a nice unit, particularly for the price. It is made from a light metal (probably aluminium) that has been lightly coated with a black paint-cum-lacquer; the paint layer has a crusted, rather old-world appearance. There is no bulb but the unit can take both (old) tungsten or low energy bulbs.

Unfortunately it uses the large screw type fitting (compared to the bayonet fitting) that isn't common in the UK, although with a little searching around you'll find suitable bulbs. Also, as reported by others there are four connections in the unit not three. But this is actually a great feature since the unit can now work with one switch (ie, standard on/off mode) or with two different switches (ie, either switch turning on or off the unit). Also (at least in my box) there was a piece of paper show how to wire up the unit in either configuration.

The real downside of this unit for me were the length of the screws -- particular those that hold the wiring box close (the box that is against the wall in the picture). There is only about 1mm of screw showing out of the end. I search the house and found a suitable longer screw that has worked well for me, but it isn't an exact match since the original screws have an hexagonal head to recess them and without this my screws proud. For me and my installation this was okay but it might be different for others. This really shouldn't have been a problem and I'm surprised by the manufacturer, clearly they haven't bothered installing their devices to see if they work in the real world.

Overall then a reasonable good product that was let down by some poor design. It's cheap enough to get and buy screws if you need.

After spending £200 for an electrician to fit this and another light, I was really annoyed to find that the light would only turn on and off at the switch. Being a clever girl and knowing that 'professional' work men NEVER READ INSTRUCTIONS, I decided to take a look for myself. If you do read the instructions, you will see that there are 2 ways to wire the light, one of which gives a manual over-ride. Luckily I didn't have to pay for another electrician because my clever brother came round and switched the wires and now the light goes on and off and works perfectly well. Be clever, make your electrician read the instructions and you will be happy with this light!

I never thought I would be writing a good review on this product. For 3 weeks now I have been cursing it and was close to returning it with poor feedback, but I have finally got it working and I am now happy. This is a good product at a good price, but it has the worst instructions I have ever seen. I even got through to Byron in the end and spoke to one of their teckies. There were two main problems..... 1. The secret black hood at the front that hides the PIR adjustments took me days to discover. I found the answer eventually on one of Amazon's reviews. 2. The wiring. There are 4 terminals and only 3 wires! The first time I wired it up all my lights and power tripped out. I then wired it a different way and the light stayed on permanently - i.e. no PIR. Anyway, after a frustrating 3 weeks it is now working well. Byron / Elro - please, please, please get your instructions sorted out - I am not the only person to have mentioned this.

I needed a replacement light for the front door and choose this type as it had a PIR, and then I could also throw out an ancient wall-mounted PIR floodlight.
The first unit arrived within a matter of a few days, but on first inspection a glass pane was broken - very poor packaging by Byron. Also it seemed that the flimsy die-cast alloy frame would have a short life span; the electrical operation of this unit was not tested.
A requested replacement was promptly received. This time, after mounting/connecting the light, I found that trying to screw in the bulb was impossible as the whole bulb-holder revolved. After further disconnection/strip-down and securing 2 x mounting nuts, the light was finally operational. Even at a the mounting height of 1.85m, the PIR was extremely sensitive and the range was in excess of 12m - for my situation, this would require a blanking strip to the top of the PIR. This was not alluded to in the very poor instructions.
The timer control was very sensitive at the shorter timings with a slight twitch of the rotary control equating to several minutes.
The adjustment for ambient light conditions was impossible as the light operated in response to all and every movement, regardless of the time of day or light conditions.
As it appears that getting a fully functional light is a matter of pot-luck, I did not chance a further replacement, and I am awaiting a refund.
