Product Description

CD Description

For those who think modern punk rock ended the moment Billie Joe from Green Day picked up an acoustic guitar, NOFX and Rancid are here to remind you that the lessons learned in the late-'70s from the likes of the Clash and the Sex Pistols are still being put to good use in the US. In the great indie-rock tradition of bands sharing sides of a single, these two clans split a full-length CD down the middle. Their styles complement each other nicely, as the hoarse vocals and melodic bass lines of Rancid rub shoulders with the slightly more streamlined (but equally assertive) sound of NOFX. Both bands have done their time on the punk underground and it shows, both in the irony and drive of such striking punk raversas "Don't Call Me White" and in the simple joy that can be heard in the efforts of both of these groups joined togetherin the common cause of furthering a style that can still accurately be called "punk" in the post-everything 21st century.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a great idea this was..., 29 April 2002
By no_fxpunk@hotmail.com (cardiff, wales) - See all my reviews
This is a really cool release, you have to be a fan to really appreciate the difference that the bands have made to each others songs.Rancid has done their best to turn the usually clipped, well recorded tracks sound more like their own style of playing, and the same can be said for nofx's offerings.highlights on this lp are 'moron bros', matts playing is just really great for this song, as well as 'the brews', which rancid could well have written themselves.'radio' is an amazing song, some people think it has been ruined, but its quite weird how well tims lyrics suit the reggae format.'im the one' is a great cover also..i reckon this is worth checking out simply because of the quality of the two bands envolved..

4.0 out of 5 stars Sounds good...does it work? Hell yes!!!, 17 Mar 2002
When i first heard about this split, i was dubious as to how well it would actauly work. The great news is, most of it does! Somehow, Rancid manage to make the NOFX tracks sound even better, and vice versa. This is especialy true of Rancids cover of Dont Call Me White, which sounds way better with Mat Freeman singin and also NOFX doin Antennas. Antennas was good when Rancid did it, but the NOFX version somehow faster, clearer and generally better than the original.
Unfortunatly, it does have its dodgy moments. Moron Brothers is a bit crappy as is Bob, but hey, any fan of Rancid and/or NOFX should be able to live with this. At first i thought NOFX all wanted slapping for what they did to Radio, but it grows on you, as does NOFX's Corozon de Oro. Fanbloobytastic punkness from two of the greats!

5.0 out of 5 stars Punk at its best, 6 Mar 2002
By A Customer
Wether you are a Rancid or NOFX fan you will find this split outstanding, as I have done. I have been a Rancid fan for many years now and because of this cd it has made me more interested in them and also in the band NOFX. It is a great advertisement for punk and these to bands will surely be remebered for a long time, even more so after they have remastered each others work. Good work to both bands and let the good work continue!!
