I once puzzled over another reviewer's comments about a similar band, and its music being Power-Country Rock pop.
Yet, here, we have another European group of capable musicians treading the same path. It does indeed share a stable with Evanescence, the Gathering, Within Temptation, Doro, Delain...
But,I could imagine Taylor Swift, or Delta Goodrem doing this stuff.
It chuggs along with not much change of pace, little in the way of real lead runs, and the hooks are mostly weak.
Angelica Rylin is the sonic focal point,(I gather visually too), but I can't discern any one thing that singles her vocals out for special mention. The front ladies of the above bands are more prepared to sing their heads off, but here it is mostly bland. And the others demonstrate more subtlety. Can't all be Simone Simons, I suppose. (Drool). (And Nightwish, with Tarja or Annette had a different kind of subtlety, due to Holopeinen's Folky inclinations....different kinda music).
The uninspiring lyrics seem to derive from adolescent angst, love-angst, with attempts at a bit of darkness and hints at dimly perceived other-worlds.
There are some brief bits of excitement, but the overall samishness gives us no real stand-out track to hang our hopes on.
In my view, "Murder of my sweet" have a way to go to be genuinely placed with those bands with whom they are compared..but then, Within Temptation took a while to get there....the great improvement in Den Adel's voice is what really drove them forward. And Amy Lee stumbled too. The early Nightwish could barely get a look in.
