5.0 out of 5 stars A Farewell to Miles 25 July 2009
Format:Audio CD
I bought this CD long after it first came out but it was one of the first Cds I bought - not long after I got my first CD Player. (I was a late entry to Silver Frisbies being a died-in-the-wool vinyl lover and the first affordable CD Player I heard that played music was my now 13 year old Quad 67).

It was recorded less than a month after Miles' death and is a wonderful tribute from Keith and Jack to their sometime "boss". One thing they learned well was Miles' philosophy of "It's not the notes you play, it's the notes you don't play that are important". And they play those in spades.

If you love Miles and also Keith, you'll love this CD. A very touching tribute to a man that touched every jazz lover's heart.

4.0 out of 5 stars enjoyable 19 Dec 2010
By enthusiast TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Audio CD
This is an enjoyable and accomplished set, a tribute to Mile Davis. The players don't put a foot wrong. You have to be in the mood for it, though. It is quite beautiful and smooth and even the rough edges sound planned. It is filled with knowing references. There is little sense of pain or raw inspiration - it is backward looking. When I'm not in the mood for it it sounds safe and sanitised.

1.0 out of 5 stars What's with all the weird noises? 18 Dec 2010
By Carl W. Sundstrom - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I was not familiar with Keith Jarrett but saw at Borders what looked like a piano jazz trio I might enjoy, particularly because of the many standards I am very familiar with. I am familiar (and like) the bassist (Gary Peacock) and the drummer (Jack DeJohnette) so I ordered this CD from Amazon based on the tunes and the players. I have an above average audio system and when I put on the CD this afternoon I thought at first that something had gone wrong with my system. Particularly on the first tune, Bye Bye Blackbird. I began to hear all sorts of weird sounds, some appeared to be human voices, others I could not figure out. Screeches, whines, all indescribable. It continued throughout most of the seven tunes, some more than others. If not for these very weird sounds, I think I would have rated this CD with at least 4 stars, as the music (without the weird sounds) was excellent, everyone in the trio. Please, if what I heard was a defective CD (I know it is not my audio system) let me know and I will take back all my negative comments. As it stands now, I doubt I would ever purchase anything by Keith Jarrett or from ECM again. What a disappointment. By the way, I have close to 1,000 jazz CD's and so I believe I know good jazz when I hear it. This CD was bizarre.
