1.0 out of 5 stars Is this a joke? 23 Jun 2009

Buzos instead of Buzion? Brazilian Santeria instead of Candomble? Native American Tarot, Maya Tarot...and now Diloggun divination? Laura Tuan obviously believes that as long as it might sell, you might just write and publish!

Shell divination is a sacred ritual practiced in Africa, Brazil, Cuba...its not an "entertainment game" and it certainly can't be used by people that are not initiated. I'm no Puritan or hardliner, neither do I promote elitism. But when the shells are cast, its not just 16 shells you can buy in a market, take home and toss about. The actual shells used for divination are consecrated to the Orisas - and its the orisa who speaks though the shells. Just to buy a cell phone doesnt let you make phone calls either - you have to get it connected by a service provider! If you don't have your BUZIOS connected, then noting is going to talk...

Knowledge about dental surgery is widely available, but just to buy a book, get a drill and offer coffee-table surgery doesn't make you a dentist either. It takes a bit more! This is not rocket science, its pure logic and common sense!

This set is a very poor attempt to introduce people to Cowrie shell divination! Its pretty useless, not very thorough and has brought the author in some serious disregard...

1.0 out of 5 stars A Disgusting Publication 5 Feb 2011
By Doug Chango - Published on Amazon.com
As a practitioner of Santeria/Lucumi I am truly disgusted by this item. It's very nature is disrespectful to Orisha and to the traditions that we follow.

The materials are wrong, some are missing, and the shells don't work as an oracle without certain ceremonies being done. Despite the fact that it takes years to study and understand the patterns that the shells can make as they fall, only Orisha priests have the ability/right/knowledge to interpret what the patterns mean.

The listing says it comes with a 64 page book... Several books already exist that exceed several hundred pages regarding the odu, and they still can't touch the depth of this system. A 64 page book is simply ridiculous as is the existence of this item in and of itself.

If you seek shell divination, find a respected Santero/a and learn the ways of Santeria/Lucumi.
