Whether you’re looking for a castle or an apartment, a holiday home or a place to relocate to for good, the guides offer all the latest information on buying property abroad. They cover all the regions that are popular with home-buyers and provide in-depth information on what to expect from each area: its climate, economy and facilities. The Buying a Property books give advice on every step of the moving process, from the first stages of organising visas and dealing with immigration and customs, to negotiating with estate agents, having surveys done and drawing up contracts, as well as restoring your property and finding reputable rental agencies. To accompany the practical advice, the guides feature anecdotes and case studies that give insights into the realities of settling in to a new environment and getting used to a different culture and pace of life. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

'There are many fantastic stories that have made the annals of estate agent lore. A couple who bought an apartment in the historic centre of Orvieto, adjacent to a church, discovered a 15th-century fresco under inches of paint and stucco applied in the centuries since. The artwork, they determined, once adorned the priests’ living quarters of the church but had been covered for so long no one knew of its existence. Another homeowner, near Salerno, pulled up modern machine-made floor tiles to find a priceless treasure: 400-year-old hand-painted glazed tiles with floral designs. This person had suddenly acquired a 60 square metre room blanketed with the precious tiles. Just one similar tile fetched 80 euros in a nearby antiques store.’ --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.
