Product Description

More and more people are being attracted to Scotland by its clean air, low crime rate and slower pace of life. Buying a House in Scotland provides everything one needs to know to buy a house there whether for use as a vacation home, a base while starting a new working life, an investment or as somewhere to spend retirement. There are unique features of the house-buying process in Scotland such as the process of selling houses at 'offers over' and the regulations involved in buying property on crafting land, so this book is essential reading for anyone considering buying there; it tells readers all they need to know. To help readers find their ideal home the book covers the entire country from the cities to the Highlands and islands, with a regional guide explaining the characters of the different areas and the types and price of property to be found there. The book also gives essential information for when the purchase is complete from how to deal with builders and other craftsmen when restoring or renovating to making money from the house by renting it out. Also provided is essential background information to each country covering the history, culture and economy, visa, permit and residence regulations, the health care, banking and education systems, and more.

I found that this book was long in history and generalities. I had expected more on the legal side of buying property in Scotland

5.0 out of 5 stars Buying A House In Scotland by Nicola Taylor, 12 Mar 2011
By Steven M. Krause "svensvane" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Buying a House in Scotland (Paperback)
In 2004, I began visiting Scotland with the notion of moving there. I purchased this book so I could learn what I might be in for as far as buying a house. Nicola Taylor is an English woman who fell in love with Scotland and moved with her husband and family to Scotland to live. While one would think that house-buying in Scotland would be the same as in England, there are important differences. I never followed through with my move, but I used this book to guide me along the process right up to the point of signing on the line. It is written in a easy to read manner and is enjoyable even if one does not intend to purchase property. Nicola is an engaging and insightful writer.
