This is a really beautiful book for teaching colours to toddlers, and the cover really doesn't do it justice. Lucy chases a butterfly, and while she's looking for it she finds a ladybird, a spider, a snail and other creepy-crawlies in the garden. There are clever peep-holes between the pages and the illustrations are gorgeous, reminiscent of Eric Carle's, though whole page rather than with a white backgroud. The book ends with a big pop-up butterfly in rainbow colours. A winner.

Must Have for my 19 month old 25 April 2008
By Melanie - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
I saw this in our local bookstore and had to have it. My instincts were right, because my 19 month-old can't get enough of the beautiful illustrations and the story is just simple enough so that my four year-old can read it to her sister before bedtime. The colors used are vibrant and interesting, and the pop-up butterfly at the end is a great surprise for the young ones. Great for pre-schoolers.

A great choice for color learning and story time! 12 Jan 2011
By J. Prather - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
The innovative design of this book and the spare text make this a fun pick for toddler groups. The photos with their die cut holes are engaging and colorful, and of course that huge pop out butterfly at the end is sure to capture any wandering eye that you might have lost along the way.

I love that that although this is a concept book about colors, it still has some basic story elements that are great for introducing very young listeners to books that not only teach, but have a beginning, middle and an end. It's rare that you find that for the very young. This is a great choice for storytime or for your toddlers library and serves as a good way to introduce a few basic colors. Recommended.

The Butterfly book is a hit! My granddaughter loves it and it is difficult to keep her from trying to take the pop up out of the book.. We are really enjoying reading it and love the design of the pages.
