Thriller starring Pierce Brosnan and Gerard Butler. Neil (Butler) and Abby (Maria Bello) Warner have the perfect life and a perfect marriage. With their beautiful young daughter, Sophie (Emma Karwandy), they are living the American dream... until today. When Sophie is suddenly kidnapped, they have no choice but to comply with the abductor's demands. The kidnapper, Ryan (Brosnan), a cold and calculating sociopath, takes over their lives with the brutal efficiency of someone who has nothing to lose. It soon becomes clear that Ryan's demands are all the more terrifying... because he doesn't want their money. What he wants is for Neil and Abby's life to be systematically dismantled and destroyed, piece by piece.

What a brilliant film. I watched this last night and I have to say this film had so many twists that I was literally chained to my seat. The great thing about this movie is that just when you start to feel sympathy for one character another twist appears which makes you totally change your mind. I never so the end scene coming, and that is the mark of a great film ith some brilliant actors, I really recommend it!

I watched this movie when I had nothing better to do. Because I had never heard of it and usually most people don't bother with a movie they have'nt heard of before because you automatically assume it's a dud but boy was i surprised! I loved this film so much I am buying it on Bluray! The acting was superb (IMO) and the plot was filled with so many twists and turns I was literally on the edge of my seat from the moment it started. The ending was brilliant - I never saw it coming! Thats what really makes the movie for me - the ending. It's so brilliant in it's unexpectedness (if there was ever such a word?) that it had a "Sixth Sense" ring to it. Pierce plays a good "baddie" IMO. He should play these roles more often. Great film, watch it for yourself - don't be discouraged by negative reviews. It's a good movie!

I wasn't expecting much from this film when I started watching it, but it's very well paced and had me interested right from the start. It's a fairly run of the mill thriller, but it's very well executed. The twists and turns come along at just the right time to keep the viewer interested. Pierce Brosnan, Gerard Butler and Maria Bello all carry out their parts very well. There are a few moments that require a suspension of disbelief, but ultimately this film succeeds because it keeps the viewer asking questions right to the end.
Not a bad way to spend 90 minutes.

I quite liked this film. But only 'quite'! I tried to work out what was missing from the film to make it a top notch thriller. In fact, apart from the leading lady, who plays her part very well, the remainder of the cast are either half-hearted (Brosnan) or OTT (Butler).

The film does grip in parts but the pressure on the family of the kidnapped daughter is not really maintained and I think it's this which lets down the 'thriller' aspect. (I also dislike intensely poor editing - even a Range Rover, after hitting a wall would surely have a little damage and why weren't the air-bags released?) Picky? Probably but these days, we expect accuracy from our films.

I think Brosnan should have kept on with Bond (though now we have a new one, I wouldn't change back!) and Butler should stick to being superficial and smarmy.

If anyone wants my copy, let me know. It's not a film you can watch more than once but, in my view, you wouldn't want to, anyway. I gave it three stars because I'd just watched 'Next' and it's way better than that film!

We really enjoyed this movie in our house. It is very reminiscent of Hitchcock in that, in its tightly written script, nothing is quite what it seems.

To say too much about the plot would very likely spoil it by giving clues away. Suffice it to say, it convinces. For the most part, so does the acting. Pierce Brosnan is superb. He's totally convincing and his performance is a wonderful example of how little a really good screen actor needs to do to achieve a convincing and gripping performance. The female lead is excellent too. I had a slight reservation about the other leading actor. There is a scene in a lift when I became very conscious that he was "acting". Compared with Brosnan's less is more performance which totally convinces, this scene marred the second male lead's otherwise very good performance.

The film is directed and designed with great style. The composition of shots is always spot on and the story telling reminiscent of Hitchcock at his best. There has obviously been total collaboration between writer, director, designers and actors and it shows to great effect. the individual contributions are noteworthy and the whole is greater than their very considerable parts. Thoroughly recommended.

You know its bad news when the trailers for other movies included on a DVD are better than the actual film itself. Well, luckily for Butterfly on a Wheel, the trailers on this DVD are all for pretty dire movies so there's not much competition.

This is your standard 'why is he doing what he's doing?' thriller. In this case we are supposed to wonder why Pierce Brosnan is putting Gerard Butler and Maria Bello through hell. I found myself wondering why the director insisted on making Butler try to do an American accent. As other reviewers have noted there are the standard number or plot twists and turns designed to keep you guessing the main turns' true motivations. All in all there are just about enough to make this an acceptable submission to the genre, despite the fact that all films like this are basically pale imitations of Jagged Edge.

The film takes a good half an hour to become remotely interesting but even then the hoops Butler and Bello are made to jump through are moderately weird or unpleasant.

What I really didn't like about Butterfly on a Wheel though was the characters. There are four important parts and none of them are in any real way likeable. Its interesting to watch someone be put through hell only to come out the other side better. But when it turns out all the protagonists are actually rather nasty people at heart, who cares what they do to each other?
