The Martians Have Landed! is a stuffed-to-the-antennae (although, come to think of it, they don't have any) introduction to the Butt-Ugly Martians, that trio of CGI extraterrestrials who are sent to this world to conquer it but who decide Earth is so cool (mainly due to our endless supplies of junk food, video games and other essentials) that they decide to stay here and defend it instead, notably against their own leader, Emperor Bog. This results in some quite funny scenarios, with the BUMs faking scenes of conquest for transmission home by using painted backdrops. They're aided and abetted by a pair of teenagers and a robotic dog (called Dog) and hunted by the superbly named Stoat Muldoon, who makes it his business to hunt aliens. There are four episodes of the TV series here: "Playback/Payback", "Jax the Conqueror", "Meet Gorgon" and "You Bet Your Planet". Despite the fact that the CGI is mostly of sub-PlayStation standard--although the scenes set in outer space are pretty effective--they're perfect post-school, pre-teatime wind-down fodder.

The 4:3 DVD scores heavily in the extras department, with behind-the-scenes interviews with the production staff and voiceover actors (which include the veteran Robert "Untouchables" Stack), a quiz, a gallery, a trivia section, Web links and more.--Roger Thomas

"Koo Foo" has long been one of my favorite episodes from the BUTT UGLY MARTIANS television series. It is a story of discovering the last of a hostile race of aliens called the Koo Foo. The Martians, having been raised with stories of these "boogeymen," rush to make sure that the discovery of one of these creatures doesn't lead to the destruction of Earth. The animation takes place in the Sahara and the 3-D rendering is breath-taking. As always the Martians foe, Stoat Muldoon, arrives on the scene. As voiced by Robert Stack, Stoat Muldoon is the element that makes this children's show fun for adults. More important than the fun is the video's theme -- don't stereotype people because of their race. In these times anti-racist messages are few and far between. Congratulations to the writers for doing a brilliant job.

Great humour, great graphics, great everything. These martians are surely going to be the next hit. Me and my friends loved this. some of the rude noises in the videos which the martians make seem to be edited out of the television series, I don't know why, they just make it even more hillarious.

A fantastic video - a splendid portfolio of characters including the hilarious Stoat Muldoon. This is supposed to be tailored for 4 to 11 year olds. I'm 30 and was in stitches the whole way through. I suggest you do yourself and your children a favour and buy it.

My two boys (8 and 10 yrs) love this DVD. Not just the episode of Butt Ugly Martians but also the imaginative and truly interesting bonus material.
A thouroughly good and worthwhile release. I'm looking forward to the next in the series.
