The biter bit........ well nearly!
So far as I know "The Butcher beyond" is the only DCI Woodend novel not set in the United Kingdom. It begins with the Chief Inspector taking his wife Joan for a rest cure to Spain. It is also the first Woodend novel where Joan Woodend occupies more than a walk on part.
A well crafted plot with many twists ands turns keeps you guessing for at least two hundred of the 232 pages, such is the construction of the novel that when the murderer is finally revealed you have some difficulty in deciding whether it is the victim or the murderer you despise the most.
As is usual with Sally Spencer's books, an enjoyable read with much local colour.
