Selling records and winning awards are the things that have always come easy to Phil Collins. He has sold 100 million solo records and another 150 million with Genesis, putting him in the same rarefied league as Madonna, Elton John and Pink Floyd. His numerous awards include seven Grammys, two Golden Globes and an Oscar (for You’ll Be In My Heart from Disney’s Tarzan).

5.0 out of 5 stars Astounding, polished to perfection 11 July 2002
Format:Audio CD
This 4th solo album from Phil Collins, which was released in 1989 to commercial success, and its no wonder. Every song is exciting, and different from the last, and also more to the point, different to all other artists. Take the opener "Hang In Long Enough" - a song about overcoming obstacles in life, an up beat catchy song in just a few listens it's infectious! "Do You Remember" - a lovely sweet reminisance of good times with a lover. Colours, an 8 minute epic about the problems in Africa which is so unbelievably fast paced and catchy it's really hard to find someone who wouldn't like it if they heard it. We have the other well known classics "I Wish It Would Rain Down" and "Another Day In Paradise", to be truthful, no song on this album is filler every song is brilliant and Phil Collins singing is wonderfully powerful, yet at the same time delicate and thoughtful...A classic even non Phil Collins fanatics will enjoy this popular music...without the cheese.

5.0 out of 5 stars but seriously superb 16 Sep 2006
Format:Audio CD
I had this for christmas in 1989 on cassette and this year bought it as part of the triple box set.

But Seriously is in my opinion the best original album ever, you can listen to this start to finish with no tracks being weak. Although the more well known ones like Another Day In Paradise, Something Happened on the Way to Heaven and Wish It Would Rain Down are really good, I love alot of the lesser known ones. Heat On The Street is probably my favourite, but Father to Son leading onto Find A Way to My Heart works perfectly, as both are from the heart and amazing songs. Do you remember is a brilliant track itself and probably didn't get the chart success due to the normal fact of previous releases being so good, that most people wait for the album release. Colours has a great build up and when the tune changes, I agree that I don't know of anyone who doesn't tap their feet to this one, a real gem.

Even the other tracks like the short but sweet intsrumental Saturday Night, Sunday Morning and All of my Life are really catchy tunes.

One of the best by one of the absolute best.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful 11 Nov 2000
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
If it wasn't for this album, my eyes would not have been completely opened and Phil would be missing one of his most commited and loyal admirers! I first heard this album at the age of 11 (now nearly 21) and fell in love with every song on it practically. I can't find fault with it. 'Hang in long enough', 'That's just the way it is', 'Do you remember', 'Something happened on the way to heaven', 'Colours', 'I wish it would rain down', 'Another day in paradise', 'All of my life', 'Father to son', and especially my favourite 'Find a way to my heart' are all classics. There's such a wonderful jazz, soul and pop/rock influence with this album it caters for almost any music fan. It proves Phil as the underated genius that he truly is. Fantastic!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Phil Collins at his best..... 8 Aug 2000
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
This album fails to fault. His 'Greatest hit' album features many of the songs from this album. The great bass and changing moods of today's pop, this artist compliments each area of modern day life in an album that is packed with great music which you can't help but play over and over again. He appeals to all ages and this album proves that, as both my son and I have this at the top of our record collections. In a nut-shell pure pop.. at its best!

By film fan VINE VOICE
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I used to own this album on cassette and I have played it over and over and over again. I think that this is possibly Phil Collins's best album of his career. I know he has made several in his long established career with Genesis and on his own but as far as his single career goes I reckon that this album is well up there near the top.

This album, as the title may suggest, deals pretty much with the serious issues going on in the world. Take the epic track 'Colours' for instance. It's the longest track on the album by a country mile, yet it still seems to resonate when listening to the song 22 years later after it originally came out. The track focuses on the plight of the young men, children and parents in Africa and how they are struggling to live and cope in their war-torn regions and comparisons to the way we live in the Western world. It still goes on. The people in Africa are still struggling and coping in their war-torn regions and we think we have a raw deal still in the Western world. 'Colours' is my favourite track on the album. This is followed closely by 'Another Day in Paradise' which focuses on a homeless girl who has been in and out of hostels and is left begging on pretty much every street ignored by one man passing by and then pleads with another to help her out. These are just two of the highlights. The whole album gets the listener absorbed. It did that to me anyway. Even listening to the album now, it still resonances today.

...But Seriously is a deeply affecting and astonishingly moving album which puts into context why the world today still hasn't moved on from the world we left behind 22 years ago. This is Phil Collins getting people to look at the whole picture not just a little bit of it. His most courageous album he has produced. Sublime listening.

3.0 out of 5 stars But Seriously
This is Phil's fourth 80s album and I think it's his second best in the 80s. Better than Face Value (1981) and No Jacket Required (1985) but not as good as Hello, I Must Be Going! Read more
