One court appearance and a £75 fine later, Roy Hattersley and his companion were consigned to the criminal ranks. But that was not the end of the matter, as journalists pursued the pair through the parks of London. From his lowly beginnings as a street pup and rescue dog, Buster charts his heady rise to the sophistication of SW1. Hotels, living with The Man and mealtimes that She dictates are only a few of the obstacles Buster has to negotiate. But negotiate them he does and despite momentary lapses in his 24-hour memory, the three learn to live together as a family. Light-hearted and humorous in tone, Buster's Diaries was never meant to be a serious treatment of animal psychology; yet it does offer the odd thoughtful comment on a British society which often seems to revolve around dog ownership and the tabloid press. A good wind-down book, this story offers you a leisurely stroll towards the happy ending where Buster finally adjusts to the rigours of owning The Man. This is a real laugh out loud book - you have been warned, do not read it in public or else you will choke trying to stifle your laughter. One part that I thought was particularly funny was Buster's discovery of the Man's perverted habit - collecting dog faeces. I haven't been able to use a plastic bag when taking my dog for a walk without thinking of this and wondering if my dog is looking at me with a disgusted look on her face.

This is a thoroughly good read. I particulary wanted to read this book because I have a crossbread staffordshire bull terrier/corgi called Bobbie. Bobbie is also a rescue case similar to Buster. We got her from the local Animal Rescue centre. She was a bag of bones when we first got her home and I don't think we heard her bark for at least a month. She has been with us for about 4 years and like Buster came to us with many unsociable habits. Like Buster however she has managed to overcome these traits, and has decided to conform to her humans way of living.
I loved the book. It is the sort of book you can dip into and you will always be guaranteed a laugh.

Whether you're laughing because you recognise yourself in The Man or because the dog's straight observations make you, the fact is: you are laughing out loud! A classic "couldn't put the book down" and tops in its genre.

Busters Diaries
A wonderful wonderful book written so well by Roy Hattersley. Kept me interested throughout especially as I have a similar dog and now know what he's thinking!!!

Imaginative and funny. Well done Buster, true to life!
A first class effort from the author. As a dog owner myself, so many of these antics ring true. Viewed from the dogs perspective this book is both funny and imaginatively written. Read more
