Our Hospitality and Sherlock Jr are two Buster Keaton classics, but they are not presented to their best advantage by this "Signature" DVD. The DVD has no extras and not even a menu so you cannot get to the second film, Sherlock Jr without scrolling through the first - it doesn't even start at a chapter point. However, as there doesn't appear to be another DVD version of Sherlock Jr, it's worth it to get to this masterpiece - both a comic delight and a film which demonstrates an assured handling of film langauage. Keaton's character is a projectionist who is also training to be a detective. When he's framed for stealing a watch, and spurned by his girlfriend, Keaton daydreams that he is a famous detective solving a similar case in one of the films he's projecting. Keaton physically jumps into the film and there follows a series of cuts in which his character can't keep up with the changing locations, sitting down on a bench, only to be nearly run over in the cut to the next street shot. The first film, Our Hospitality, should not be missed for the surreal train journey and Keaton's stunts.
