Product Description

Product Description

In recent years, the concept of 'do-it-yourself' has become a lifestyle with all things handmade at its core. Whether it's sewing your own clothes, making your own cheese or fixing your own bike, the craft community has embraced a 'can do' attitude that transcends categories and scoffs at the notion that crafting is a mere hobby. "The Bust DIY Guide to Life" is a book that speaks to this growing community, containing approximately 250 DIY and craft projects that have appeared in "Bust Magazine" over the last 13 years. With Debbie Stoller (creator of the epic "Stitch-n-Bitch" series) at the helm of the magazine and with Debbie and her co-publisher Laurie spearheading "Bust Magazine's" wildly successful semi-annual Craftacular craft fairs in New York City and Los Angeles, Bust is at the forefront of the craft and DIY movement and is perfectly situated to produce a book for this modern generation of crafters.

About the Author

Debbie Stoller and Laurie Henzel are the founders and publishers of Bust Magazine, a monthly magazine targeted at women aged 18 to 35, with 20,000 subscribers and 30,000 monthly newsstand sales. Stoller is editor-in-chief of Bust and Henzel is the creative director. In 1999 Stoller co-authored the Bust Guide to the New Girl Order, and then in 2004, she created the Stitch 'n Bitch series (Workman), which now includes Stich 'n Bitch, Stitch 'n Bitch Nation, Stitch 'n Bitch Crochet, Son of Stitch 'n Bitch and the upcoming Stitch 'n Bitch Advanced Course.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant book - a long time coming., 6 Nov 2011
This review is from: Bust DIY Guide to Life (Bust Magazine) (Hardcover)
Firstly, I do a lot of crafting and I've been buying Bust magazine for the last 2/3 years so this book was a no brainer when it came to buying...with that said it has FAR succeeded what I was expecting.

The authors have trawled all the DIY in the magazine since it started and crammed them into a really nice big hardbacked book and they seem to have covered a bit of everything.

I buy a lot of craft book and this is honestly on of, if not the best craft book I've ever bought but I think this come from the compilation of the 10+ years of material they had to fill it.

I'm so impressed that I'm now buying copies for Christmas presents...that all being said, I'm away to cut my own fringe/bangs and make matching pants and a vest from an old gig tshirt! ;-)

5.0 out of 5 stars I LOVE this book, 18 Oct 2011
By Rebecca M. Matheny "music snob" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Bust DIY Guide to Life (Bust Magazine) (Hardcover)
The books says right on the back that it is a collection of Bust's DIY articles through the years (The last reviewer didn't like that I guess).

But I disagree, and I'm in love with this book. The DIY articles of Bust are some of my favorites. And it's crammed with seriously, anything you could ever need or want to learn. Wanna learn how to buy your first house? No problem. Want to learn how to make your own deodorant from Eco-friendly and natural ingredients? This will teach you. How to put together an emergency kit? Not enough people think of that. I mean seriously, you can learn how to replace a zipper, Create Finger Waves, Make soap, make cocktails, make your own beer, start a business, do your taxes, fixing a flat tire....the list goes on. This is one hefty book!

I just got it from the library, and the thought of parting with it makes me so sad, I'm going to order my own. And one for my best friend, and my brothers girlfriend, and....

5.0 out of 5 stars Yes, I can finally get rid of my folder of Bust tear-outs, 5 Nov 2011
By Damali Rhett "Wonderchild" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Bust DIY Guide to Life (Bust Magazine) (Hardcover)
I have been reading Bust magazine for years and it is one of my favorite magazines. I've been tearing out the crafts and recipes for years. I was excited when I saw the ad for this book, but it went far beyond my expectations. I'm a super busy person, but I find that if you go through there are a mix of projects that are appropriate for all levels of crafting, cooking or tips. For example, I've made the lamp out of books and it was super easy and I've received numerous complements on it. I know I won't be sewing my own clothes, but they have a skirt that you can make out of hem tape.

And cooking. Well, in my little bit of spare time I love cooking and the recipes are mostly handed down from grandmothers, mothers, aunts (which unfortunately, you don't always get the backstory in the book) and run the gamut from super fancy to super easy.

I promise you that if I, the non-artistic, almost type-A MBA working 60 hours a week can find time to do something from this book and love it, you can too!
