The Fantasia is a difficult piece of music, both for the pianist and for the listener. Postnikova does a good job hitting the notes, not so well at making the knottier counterpoint work as music. The lines won't separate unless the performer makes them, and she doesn't get that done clearly enough for me to follow. That's a lot to ask of her, but I know it can be done.
She does her part in the concerto well; I can't really tell how the orchestra does, because the recorded sound is a mess in the tuttis, distorted and shmeared together. This performance has been issued on other labels; I hope the sound is better there than Apex managed. I really dislike knocking the work of professionals, but this CD is dismaying.
