Book Description

The world is increasingly turbulent and complex, awash with disruptions, tipping points and knock-on effects exemplified by the implosion of financial markets and economies around the globe.

This book is for business and organizational leaders who want and need to think through how best to deal with increasing turbulence, and with the complexity and uncertainty that come with it. The authors explain in clear language how future orientation and, specifically, modern scenario techniques help to address these conditions. They draw on examples from a wide variety of international settings and circumstances including large corporations, inter-governmental organizations, small firms and municipalities. Readers will be inspired to try out scenario approaches themselves to better address the turbulence that affects them and others with whom they work, live and do business.

This second edition extends the use of scenarios planning and methods to tackle the risk and uncertainty of financial markets and the potentially massive impacts on businesses of all kinds, providing powerful tools to give far thinking executives an advantage in these turbulent times.

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent and thought provoking 15 Nov. 2010
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I saw much of the content presented at a lecture at Green Templeton College, Oxford some years back, and at that stage was prompted to get a copy via inter libary loan. It offers a thought provoking approach to problems and issues current in a rapidly changing world. A complex and technically challenging book, it is an excellent introduction to the concept of turbulence and the need for new approaches to handle that.

Book overview.

This book investigates how to plan the future of your business taking into account the volatile times we live in and all the Worlds economic problems.

Does it deliver ?
Mostly yes, there are some excellent chapters on how to survive in current times. Also there are some useful tips on managing a business through the current financial crisis. One thing it has taught me to do is not to look too far ahead as no one can accurately predict that far. Also the parts on how to deal with an unexpected crisis were useful.

I did feel that in some areas it could have gone into more depth but it has made me look for the information which is a good point. I now feel better prepared to deal with the mid terms fluctuations in the economy.

Overall.
Worth a read for anyone with a small company and also for students looking at management practice and planning.,
