Product Description

Meet Ryan Kyd, a former member of the elite Diplomatic Protection Group.

In his time, Ryan guarded Royalty, Prime Ministers and faced down terrorists. Now he’s set up on his own as a Private Investigator on the mean streets of South London.

Then trouble comes calling in the shape of “DK” Kapoor, a shady businessman.

Ryan is plunged into a world of arranged marriages, scheming relations, kidnapping and murder.

It’s a far cry from the P.I. role Ryan had expected, tracing missing persons and recording adulterous liaisons.

Now his business is murder.

'A gripping crime thriller set in the heart of modern London.' - Tom Kasey, author of 'Trade Off'.

'An accomplished and entertaining slice of London noir.' - Robert Foster, author of 'The Lunar Code'.

Roger Hurn has had over 70 books published. In his spare time Roger plays seven-a-side football and, to the horror of music lovers everywhere, guitar in a rock band.

Endeavour Press is the UK’s leading independent publisher of digital books.

5.0 out of 5 stars A real gem! 4 Jun 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is a real gem! Superbly plotted and totally gripping. I downloaded 'Business is Murder' this morning and I was genuinely late for an appointment because I couldn't stop reading it! I loved it on so many levels: its believable, sharply observed characterisation; its crackling dialogue; its genuinely unexpected twists; its sharply humorous writing that caused me to laugh out loud on occasions, not to mention some hilarious observations from the dry wit of Ryan Kydd who displays the cynicism of the disappointed ideallist yet we never lose sight of his underlying humanity and warmth - I love the detective genre and this character can really develop ... I really hope to read a lot more Ryan Kydd cases.

Another aspect of this book that particularly impressed me was that the author did not shy away from some fascinating moral ambiguities but confronts them with honesty; this is not comfortable 'Sunday evening slipper' detective fiction but gritty and realistic writing that asks some tough questions. Roger Hurn has created characters that have substance and that we can care about, who inhabit an 21st Century urban environment, and, although it is firmly set in London, this could equally be any modern city. I really hope that this develops into a series.

This writer and series has massive potential - I echo another reviewer ... five stars is not enough!

I LOVED IT!!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable 18 Jun 2013

I have used Roger Hurn's stories with school pupils previously, but this book is the authors first foray into the adult fiction area, that I am aware of. The story flows and moves nicely along, and it will be interesting to see where the main character goes in future stories...perhaps he will come across a demon head-teacher at some point!

Don't normally go for thrillers but WHAT A STORY - fast, funny, numerous twists and turns and yet totally plausible. Gripping to the end. Can't wait or the next installment of Ryan Kid

4.0 out of 5 stars Daft story but readable 1 Aug 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Most of this book was far fetched (or was it) but it was entertaining from page one and I stuck it out to the end. Arranged marriages are always controversial - but it covered all angles - drink, sex, theft, violence, you name it, and most crimes were covered

Recommend it. Good Detective work, murder, family squabbles. Funny at times. Main character is good and can easily get into him. Looking forward to his next adventure.

2.0 out of 5 stars funny and easy read
The character is quite funny, story easy to follow though quite predictable. A book to read in the train during a long commute but not more than that in my opinion.

2.0 out of 5 stars It's a no no
Didn't enjoy this authors writing style found it to be more like a comic than a serious story with all the jokey, jokey phrases. Shan't be reading any more Roger Hurn novels.

2.0 out of 5 stars lightweight
OK but quite lightweight, don't think I will try any others. Not very descriptive and though DK's language did conjure up the character well
