From the Publisher

Business environment model: The text introduces and analyses the business environment model and presents tools and methods of assessment to analyse the model, allowing students to view the business environment both internally and externally to determine business strategies.
Holistic Approach: The 4e has moved away from the marketing emphasis of the 3e towards a more broad outlook of the business environment, helping students to understand how business organisations operate in economic, political, social, technological, and legal environments. `Thinking around the subject' boxes have been developed to encourage students to think about the business environment in a broader context.
The international scene: As a result of the increasing globalisation of business, a chapter has been dedicated to the international business environment, allowing students to relate what they have learnt to a broader international context.
Currency: The 4e has strengthened its currency by reflecting the most up to date changes in the business environment and incorporating them into the text.
Pedagogy: Comprehensive range of learning features and assessment material is integrated throughout the text to support students' study and reinforce topics covered in each chapter. Chapter objectives at the start of the chapter serve as a useful guide for both lecturers and students, highlighting what the author aims to achieve in each chapter. Each chapter concludes with insightful vignettes, review questions, a chapter summary and links to other chapters, which serve as a valuable revision tool and encourage students to cross-reference throughout the book tying the themes of the book together. Ian Worthington and Chris Britton

In a fast-paced and constantly changing world, it is more important than ever to have a sound appreciation of the context in which business organisations exist and operate. Now in its sixth edition, this bestselling textbook offers a comprehensive, yet accessible, introduction to the wide range of external influences that affect business operations and decisions in today’s increasingly globalised world.

How are business organisations affected by globalisation?

Using well-known examples and case studies from a broad range of organisations, this sixth edition of The Business Environment addresses these key questions and many more. A brand new chapter on the global context of business, together with new International Business in Action case studies, illustrates the global nature of today’s world of business.

  • Explore all the issues which are critical to understanding the business environment and learn how these impact on organisations of all types and size.

  • Benefit from up-to-date information and accessible analysis of both the macro- and micro-environmental influences that affect business organisations today.

  • Put theory into practice, using case studies on organisations includingTata Motors, GlaxoSmithKline, Mars, VW, JCB, Toyota and Sony – and issues such as global food prices, productivity and EU enlargement.

Topics covered include Micr and Macroeconomics, Law, the Political Environment, the Business Environment and Markets, making this a well written book which gives up-to-date information and balanced opinions. The language used and content make this book a versatile resourse for students ranging from A Level through to higher education. The case studies, review and discussion questions, together with the assignments should prove useful to both students and tutors alike.

Well written, colourful, and relatively easy to understand texbook. You learn quite a lot of new words and concepts especially if you are new to the subject (like me as an Electronic Engineering student).

An essential topic to be covered by variety of students studying variety of disciplines. Because business is an important topic for all the courses nowadays and that's why a few business modules are integrated to our Engineering degree program as well.

Covering plenty of real world case studies showing the problems that the companies faced in the past and what sort of strategies they developed to overcome these problems. At the end of the chapters the new words mentioned in the chapter are also included.

Really good investment and highly recommended.

Mr. Engin Sicimogullari (MEng Electronic Engineering Student)

Most books in this category have a tendancy to be boring. 'The Business Environment' however tries to up to date and enjoyful, in a truely successful manner. A mixture in the font and colour of the text make the subjct pleasing to the eye. Therefore in my view, the content of the book sinks right in. The text is blended well with diagrams, so the information is readily accessable. As a student of the subject at degree level, I have found this book a fantastic resource, and thoroughly recommend it to others.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good but fluffy, much interdisciplinary overlap. 12 Sep 2013

I suppose this would be a good book for a 14-year old as it provides more of an overview of the nebulous topic of "the business environment" but does not provide in-depth studies or discussions of issues. Reading Bloomberg BW, The Economist, Financial Times, Harvard Business Review, etc. - would probably provide more relevant reading if basic working knowledge of history and economics are not absent.
