Product Description

Product Description
Business in Context 4e provides an introduction to the business environment and the key functions of business placed within a managerial, organizational and environmental context. Offering a dynamic and contemporary global perspective on business, key issues are debated and supported by practical cases from well-known international companies. The latest edition of David Needle's best-selling functional business environment text has been thoroughly revised and rewritten, with expanded coverage of management, new chapters on globalization and ethics, new cases, improved pedagogy and text design, and increased web support for the lecturer and student.

From the Publisher
For anyone seeking an accessible introduction to business.
From the Asian Tigers . . . to London Zoo, cultural influences on business . . . to transfer pricing and the global firm, Disneyland® Paris . . . to the telemarketing of flowers, ecommerce . . . to lean manufacturing . . . Business in Context is a dynamic and contemporary global perspective on business for anyone requiring an accessible introduction to the subject. Using practical case studies from a diverse and well-known range of international companies, David Needle debates the key issues within business in a practical context.

Needle’s exciting text incorporates new and updated case material, and has been entirely rewritten to include two key themes of globalization and the effect of technology on business. In addition the third edition of this best-selling text retains this successful approach:

** assumes no prior knowledge and illustrates theories and concepts with real-world examples

** written clearly using a student-centred approach which includes criticism, definitions of key terms and concepts, discussion and advice on further reading

** balanced coverage of the social, international and comparative aspects of business as well as the different internal functions.

Business in Context is an ideal introduction to the key activities of business for students at degree or equivalent level on business-related courses. It is also appropriate for use at Diploma and MBA level and by students of other disciplines seeking an overview of the business field.

Visit the publisher's website for supporting resources. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

3.0 out of 5 stars An excellent book for a business student !, 27 Jan 1999
By A Customer
Im on a software engineering management course. This was recommended by our lecturer for the 'management' module. As usual as the book list goes around there are load groans rippling like waves around the room. However, it is a surprisingly interesting book. Bearing in mind that all we wanted to do really was write code, we actually became interested in the subject. Everyone on the course bought the book (unheard of!) and it became a must for the exams.

It gets over the basics and more with real examples and well tested concepts. The examples are about the biggest and best companies that everyone has heard of, making it feel easy to read.

Marketing, Human Resources, Finance, Production, Management Strategy. Its all in there complete with criticism, discussion and advice on further reading.
