5.0 out of 5 stars Another great book from the Frank Wood series 3 Sep 2010
Format:Paperback
This is THE book to buy if you are studying accounting. It works its way through the basics in a clear, informative manner and it will be your basic reference for years to come. It is suitable for anyone studying accounting and I will be suggesting to my students to buy a copy IMMEDIATELY.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good but.... 18 May 2011
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I ordered this book because somebody recommended as a good tool to learn and to practice double-entry bookkeeping. and yes to the information are given in a very simple easy to understand English and the book gives you a good amount of exerices to practice the theory. So for that I would recommended but..... I am a bit surprised there is no Errata note, as the answers to exercises contain quite a few errors, I am only going through 3rd chapter and located a few. it knocks your confidence off if you compare your answers to the model ones, and you think you have done it correct and you not sure where the problem is.
So I would say yes good book, but for somebody who has a bit of prior knowledge about bookkeeping so can look at the answers more critically.
as for the publisher, please can we have a list of corrections

What is great about this book is the fact it is just so structured.

Each chapter is sub-divided into sections at the end of each section there are excercises relating to that work. The structure not only for the explanation but more critically for the excercises must reflect David Horner's many years teaching experience.

A number of the accounting methods involve a series of steps. Horner quite brilliantly builds up, through the exercises, the student's ability to take those steps. He seemed to anticipate the bits the average student, like myself, will struggle with and focus on that in an exercise or two. This really helps to build not only ability but also confidence.

Another reviewer has rightly pointed to a few possible errors in the answers to a very small number of the questions this is the only flaw in the book. That said I resisted the temptation to put it aside and carried on. I discovered (1) On a number of occasions looked at carefully the error was MINE and I was learning by looking so closely at why the answer was different (2) Where the book does appear to be in error I just had to reflect that the proof-reading task must have been massive and nobody not even the most inspiring teacher is infallible and in a strange way that encouraged me that I can do something that I haven't always found easy!

Overall I look at what I can do now that I couldn't do before I started using the book and I'm amazed with what I have learnt and the confidence I have gained.
