I was so excited when I purchased this camera. I had heard how great it was. The set up was easy (thanks to Simon King's video) and daytime pictures/video were good. My principle reason for purchasing this camera was to observe the garden wildlife after dark. However, night-time video was not acceptable/horrendous! The video was very grainy, much worse than I thought it would be. You could see wildlife but the grainy images ruined my viewing pleasure. From reading reviews it seems to be a hit and miss affair with these cameras. Some are okay, some are not. I tried all settings in the hope of improving the video images but nothing worked.

From seeing Springwatch/Autumnwatch I was hoping to have a lot of pleasure from this camera. I was not expecting the video to be as good as you see on tv programmes (as above) but I was expecting better than I got. I think I will have to wait until either Bushnell improve on this camera or I find another make to purchase.

The cam has been working full time for a week now and has worked as expected. The images are good and the blur is noticeable but acceptable from the 1 second night images. It takes a short time to re-start after turning off, which may catch you out the first few times (I turned it off then on again untill I realised I had to wait a little longer).

I would have given it 5/5 if the reply to my email was quicker (requesting whether the firmware on the USA site for this model - strangely missing from the European web site would be OK to download to my UK bought item). I sent it originaly on the 9th August to Bushnell UK, re-sent it on the 15th and got a reply on the 21st (for those interested the reply was to use the firmware to prevent movie flickering which I had not suffeed from).

My next cam will probably be from a different manufacturer, Scoutguard etc, as the quality difference does not seem to be that different but their prices are better.

ok the sound does not work at all..know that before you order one ! its supposed to have sound recording but that does not work..either ive been sold a faulty product or like other reviewers have said bushnell are useless at recording any sound. ( the sound decided to work on 1 video after days of it never working ! but now its gone again) i had a real hassle getting this to work as it kept saying insert sdhc card when i already had ! the user manual explicitly tells you what memory cards to get for it ( sandisk sdhc 32gb either ultra or extreme) so i bought 2 at £23 each but the bushnell 119440 will not accept those cards !!( update11aug14 im sure amazon sold me fake sandisk sdhc cards so beware if they come with yellow lock switch and say made in taiwan on the back theyre fake the genuine ones have grey lock switch and say made in china also the fakes write at half the speed theyre supposed to i know as a relative bought same cards and tested them) i finally got it to work using sandisk 64gb sdxc extreme cards class 10 !! The amazon price for the bushnell 119440 keeps changing but is averaging £260 in june 2014 which is too high but beware of buying elsewhere for cheeper as USA imports only have a 1yr warranty.

the good news it does work im using it in garden to try to catch a local burglar ! bonus is i get to record wildlife at night eg hedgehogs and as soon as sunrise birds.

Bushnell have rested on their laurels with their trailcam range, from trophy onwards.
This is better than the 2011 and 2012 models for sure but still flawed.
Video files are terrible (AVI but not a true AVI so you may need different software on your computer to view).
Atrocious crackly microphone meaning I leave sound OFF on all clips now.
Hyper sensitive to movement (old bushnells were not sensitive enough - this has gone the other way, so HIGH sensitivity mode is rendered useless - low is more than enough sensitive).
Very poor night clips (noisy) - a feature of most black LED models however.
Good points - trigger time FAR better than the frankly atrocious older bushnells and nice hybrid mode (cam can take a photo and the video when triggered) as well as nice close focus lenses.
But.
This will be my last bushnell until they realise they have been caught and passed by their competition now.

This camera has more settings than the earlier models, but they are of limited use. You have a lot of frustration finding the settings that work and can then ignore the ones that don’t. For example, with the sensor level set to ‘Auto’ (the default), the camera takes pictures continuously at night, so you have to set it to ‘Normal’ to get it to trigger only when an animal comes into view. It heats up while shooting continuously at night (mine showed 30 deg C on the status line, at 4am in April, in Yorkshire!) and of course it flattens the batteries rather quickly. You can set the night vision shutter speed, to select either low for blurred pictures (if that’s what you want), medium for more blurred pictures, or high for sharper pictures. Daylight pictures in low light conditions can be almost black. It should switch to infrared sooner. I sent the first one back as I had so many problems with it, but have persevered with the second one, although it’s just as bad.
