Good for the price, 8 Jan 2009
This review is from: Bush Red DAB RADIO TR04DABRED (Electronics)
I originally selected this radio on looks - at this price, getting a retro-style DAB radio leaves you with few options, and this seemed the best of the bunch. It was a little larger than I anticipated, but not clumsily so.
Good points are easy controls and good styling (it's definitely plastic, but my grandfather's first reaction was delight as it looked 'exactly like his first ever transistor'). Sound is clear on both DAB and FM with a bass boost if you enjoy that sort of thing. There's the option of using batteries, although as with everything it's probably a good idea to invest in some rechargeables if you intend on using it away from the mains a good deal. Reception has been no trouble, but am in quite a strong area so am unsure about performance elsewhere.
One or two things it didn't have which would have been useful to know: no line in for MP3 players etc (although does have a line out and headphone), and despite having a clock, no sleep option and no alarm. However, the radio remembers the last channel and all its presets when the mains is switched off, so I've currently set up a timer plug to switch the radio on as an alarm - works a treat.
Overall, stylish, clear sound, and easy to use.

Good little DAB Radio, 20 Dec 2008
This review is from: Bush Red DAB RADIO TR04DABRED (Electronics)
I do not own this exact model, the one I have is the earlier Grey case version with the round top buttons so it is almost the same. The set I have is around 4 years old and works well on DAB, despite living over 50 miles from London, stations such as LBC, BBC LDN, Kiss 100, Galaxy come though perfectly just using the telescopic aerial fitted. It has twin stereo speakers and good warm sound quality with 3.5mm Headphone and Line Out jacks, I assume from the design Bush intended to create a modern reincarnation of the classic TR130 with this.
There are some minor negatives though: On DAB the 6 'C' size batteries will last just a few hours, but will run on FM for a lot longer. It is best used on mains. There is no stereo imaging due to the close proximity of the speakers to each other (as on many portables). The volume control is digital and goes up in fixed increments making it difficult to set a precice level of volume, this is especially troublesome on FM (which is louder than the DAB) as at night time the volume will not turn down low enough for me without muting completely.
As with most Bush radios you get the "cheap but well made" approach, you won't get a top notch radio for this price but it will work well and have stylish looks which is the strength of the Bush brand.
