5.0 out of 5 stars As good as Sky+ 6 Jun 2010
This product exceeded my expectations, very easy to set up and to use. In some cases better than Sky+ ie if you are deleting a programme, it asks for confirmation. Also if a problem occurs that prevents recording it advises you in a message box and checks listings and if repeated sets it to record.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bush 250GB Top Up TV Digital TV Recorder 10 Sep 2010
By TimT
After reading many reviews about many makes of Top Up TV recorders,I decided to buy the Bush 160GB Top Up TV Digital TV Recorder.I was sent the 250GB model(at the same price)as a replacement, because the 160GB model was "out of stock" at the time, but that was a bonus for me,as all the models have the same features.A few minor problems after set up,but those were sorted out quickly, after reading the manual, and it does everything it is meant to do.Many of the reviews had already stated, it was easy to use, and great value at the price, which is true. Some reviews complained about ugly and noisy machines, remote controls being difficult to use,and even no manuals to use with the item.None of these were true with this purchase, and already family and friends are impressed after seeing it.After looking at all options for watching sport on TV(Sky,Virgin Media,BT Vision and Top Up TV)the best value was Top Up TV,and that was easy to order as well. The Bush Recorder was the choice I made,so I now get Sky Sports 1 & 2 plus ESPN as well, plus all the Freeview channels as standard, so everything has worked out well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Buy 3 Aug 2010
Very very happy with this item. It can record two programmes at once, watch one record one, it can pause live television, it shows a nice picture and if you want top up tv it does that too. I like a bargain and this fits the bill. Does sometimes hum slightly, so may not work in a quiet bedroom, but works well in my living room. Thoroughly chuffed with this product.

1.0 out of 5 stars Top Up TV Software changes 1 Nov 2010
This was a replacement for an earlier box of a different make from topup tv. The first one suffered extensive problems, all of which were not present in the replacement box (i.e. the Bush) until Top Up TV sent out an update instruction. From thereon the problems started. The problem is Top Up TV. We have experienced over 12 months of problems due to their constantly updating the software and creating more problems. Only now, some 16 months after delivery has the box settled down.

Previous experiences so far were 1) the box, having twin tuners and can be set to record a series it had a habit of duplicating the next recording in the series and if you had set up another programmes to record at the same time both would fail to record. The only solution was to constantly check the list of programmes due to record for any duplicates; 2)Failed to record programme despite it being shown in the planned recordings; 3) Fails to warn in advance if there is a problem over a planned recording; 4) When watching a programme after it has started to record but is still recording have the programme being deleted completely when it reached the end of the set recording time; 5) Cursor jumps rapidly from one menu item to another often skipping the intermediate points or it sits there doing nothing and then jumps rapidly to several items ahead, or moves two places when only one movement was required or (in the case of setting recording times) starts adding minutes rapidly and cannot be stopped until often over 30 minutes has been added.

After several more updates to the software the box has settled down to being a good recorder however they have still not solved the problem of the cursor movements.

This box is very good and easy to use. I purchased for my mom who's never been great with technology (just manages to txt on a mobile!)and she has found it really easy to use. The remote is very much like a sky remote. Box is quiet, one thing i was worried about after reading some more negative reviews, took the risk and i'm glad i did as it's quiet, looks good and performs well. 10/10

2.0 out of 5 stars Unreliable 13 May 2011
Have struggled with this unit for over 6 months.

I already have freeview on the LCD TV so this was bought purely for recording. The picture isn't great - a little like watching VCR.

It usually records what you want, but sometimes doesn't - even on Series Record setting. Programmes regularly drop out of the recordings library but are still there after you turn off the power and reboot the machine. In fact I've taken to rebooting a couple of times a week and that seems to help.

Not recommended!

2.0 out of 5 stars Top up card required before you can use it! 4 Jan 2011
Really annoyed. I bought it as Xmas Present for Mom and Dad. Wrapped it etc. When they opened it Xmas day and tried to use it, they found they needed to purchase a Top up card in order to use it!
Ruined their Xmas viewing as there wasn't one in the box!

5.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good for the price 7 Oct 2010
By PB
Sky finally went one step to far with their latest price increase. I spent a while looking around and decided on this unit. I wasn't let down. The negative is that obviously it won't record HD, but to be honest if you are going to bail out of Sky, giving up the majority of HD is the penalty. This unit plugged in and played. Connecton via the scart ensured it acted as the default unit when it was switched on and for the money I don't think it can be improved. I am impressed. It hasn't let me down yet. As a footnote, I even purchased the £9.99 sports top up with ESPN for the rugby. An absolute bargain compared to Sky's rates. Again the compromise is the loss of HD, but in my opinion worth the money.
