More About the Author

With more than a million copies of his 100-plus books in print, David D. Busch is the world's #1 selling author of camera-specific guidebooks, and the originator of popular series like David Busch's Pro Secrets, David Busch's Quick Snap Guides, and David Busch's Guides to Digital SLR Photography.

His twelve hugely successful books for Nikon digital cameras are the top-selling guidebooks for their respective camera models. He has also written the most comprehensive and best-selling guides for many different models from Canon, Sony, Pentax, and other vendors.

Busch's dozens of other books devoted to digital photography include Digital SLR Cameras and Photography for Dummies, David Busch's Digital Infrared Pro Secrets and Mastering Digital SLR Photography. As a roving photojournalist for more than 20 years, he illustrated his books, magazine articles, and newspaper reports with award-winning images. Busch has operated his own commercial studio, suffocated in formal dress while shooting weddings-for-hire, and shot sports for a daily newspaper and upstate New York college.

The graduate of Kent State University in Ohio operated his own photo studio and was a principal in one of the largest public relations firms based in San Diego, California, working on press conferences, press kits, media tours, and sponsored photo trade magazine articles for clients including Eastman Kodak Company and Hewlett-Packard. Busch has published more than 2000 photography articles under his by-line in more than 100 different publications. His photos have appeared on the covers of magazines, and in both print and television advertising.

Busch has become one of the leading photojournalist/authors worldwide. He has had as many as five books appear simultaneously in the Amazon.com Top 25 Digital Photography Books, and when Michael Carr of About.com named the top five digital photography books for beginners, the #1 and #2 choices were his Digital Photography All-in-One Desk Reference for Dummies and Mastering Digital Photography.

Busch was a featured guest speaking on digital photography on Toronto's Breakfast Television show, has been a call-in guest for more than two dozen radio shows in major US markets, and his advice has been featured in the United States' National Public Radio's All Things Considered programme. His work has been translated into Arabic, Czech, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, Portuguese, Bulgarian, German, Italian, French, and other languages. This is a great guide, which i am sure will make a big difference to my close-up and macro photography.
I have other books by David Busch and i find they are all well written and in a straightforward format that is easy to follow. Buy it and you won't regret it!

Phil.

After reading the other glowing reviews, I am disappointed with the content of this book. Maybe I chose badly. For a complete newbie to photography this book would no doubt be a useful start. For anyone with some experience there is little to commend it. Albeit that this is a 'field guide' and therefore brief and to the point, I found nothing new or inspirational. The photographs shown are mostly typical (yawn) pictures of flowers and insects that show little creative merit. Nothing wrong with flowers and insects of course, but there is so much more to close-up / macro photography than this. To me the overall impression is of a book that feels dated despite the 2013 publication date. Again, in defence of the authors, maybe I chose badly. Certainly I have found David Busch's Nikon camera guides so much better. So, a book for a certain audience, but not me.

It's ok for an introduction to macro photography, but if you expect it to take your expertise to a higher level look elsewhere

The book does just what it said it does.. provide clear and essential information about close up photography.. in a book small enough to carry around in your bag or camera bag, and is handy as a reference book when out photographing. I also love the coloured photos which are provided as examples of the point being made.. makes it all the easier to take on board.. I would recommend this book for people like me, who still have a lot to learn about what makes a good photo.. from the technical side to the composition..
