You know, if the Austrian doctor Ignaz Semmelweis calmly suggested to you personally off the back of his statistical research that doctors should PROBABLY wash their hands between handling the dead and delivering the newborns in the hospital he worked at, you'd say "Of course Ignaz, that's obvious."
After all, you live in a world in which the germ theory of disease (as much of a "theory" as the "theory" of gravity), is accepted by the vast majority of people, including those in the medical profession - you live in a time of acceptance of such an idea.
To you it is also obvious that the earth is round, that it goes round the sun, and (if you're keeping up with physics) that the whole solar system is moving directionally, meaning that all the planets are in fact spiralling around the sun. Toothache is not caused by demons, masturbation doesn't make you blind and so on and so forth. This is your idea-set. And you learned all of it from everyone else around you.
And yet you and I also live in times of the often automatic non-acceptance of every idea outside the canon of what is considered right and normal, or has ever been considered.
The history of medicine has been the continued one-sided confounding and erosion of past established ideas through new ones based on new evidence. Until now there has been no "cure" for cancer. Humanity has blindly assumed that it's only "treatable" essentially. As such we have a treatment based on poisoning the body, and hoping the cancer dies before the body does. Burzynski's treatment, for which there is concrete evidence, living people who once had "incurable" brain-tumours, and now have lives, and children, and facebook pages.
This documentary focuses on the story of Burzynski, and the many fascinating ploys that the cancer industry (yes, it's a 50 billion dollar a year industry that protects its interests as heavily as would an oil giant) threw in his path in order to shut down, silence, block, blackball and even imprison him, while at the same time filing copycat patents for his medicines.
You'll hear from the people who have watched the man's 30 year fight against a blind establishment which wants to keep on selling its drugs uninterrupted and easy fashion. You'll hear why the NCI approved trials of Burzynski's drugs failed (and thanks to the medical; literature, you can go and eyeball the figues that show the reasons yourself online) - Medicine is corrupt.
By the way, our friend Semmelweis, the man who watched as thousands of newborns died in a continual needless stream of human waste, while doctors gleefully "carried on as normal", was blackballed, laughed at, had hundreds of "medical texts" written about how he must be wrong. He went insane and died in an insane asylum, of an infection that his ideas for sanitation would have helped prevent.
Semmelweis - Burzynski. And everyone in between who ever tried to change things based on how they actually are, not how they "ought to be".
Make the connection. See a new idea before it enters the world of the "accepted."
