Product Description

Burying Father Tim is a fictional story rooted in the power of the human spirit. Narrated by a doctor who returns to his old neighborhood for the first time in nearly forty years to attend the funeral of his boyhood parish priest, the story blends hilarious accounts of childhood escapades with the timelessly poignant theme of loss. Reminiscences resonate as the story unfolds, evoking laughter in one moment and tugging on heartstrings the next. Whether you attended Catholic school or merely know someone who did, there is a lot of all of us in the story of Father Tim.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nostalgia at it's best 2 Feb 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I loved this book and loved traveling back in time with the narrator. I like the main person Michael telling the story, he writes honestly and shows his vulnerability whilst growing up. So many fond memories were revived. I loved Father Tim, a gentle soul. Superbly written, nostalgic, funny, sad, everything you need in a good read. The ending left you complete. I will certainly look for more by this author.

3.0 out of 5 stars NOT the Mitford Series Father Tim 3 Sep 2009
By W. Labberton - Published on
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Being a Mitford Series fan, I expected this book to be the "Father Tim" from Jan Karon's books. Robertson's "Father Tim," is a Roman Catholic priest (Jan Karon's "Father Tim" is Episcopalian). Though this book is full of nostalgia from a small town upbringing and many of the reflections remind us of the real sense of community that such an upbringing renders, it involves mostly the crazy antics of a group of childhood friends that were raised together in their hometown during which Father Tim was their priest, teacher and mentor and the impact he had on their adult lives.

Burying Father TimBurying Father Tim
I, like others, first looked at this book thinking it might be a Jan Karon sequel in the beloved Mitford series. Disappointed, I dediced nonetheless to try a "sample" on my Kindle. The sample completely caught me, and as Amazon cleverly deduced, people who BEGIN a book usually end up buying it, the second I came to the end of the sample, I hit "Buy This Book" button and paid a shocking $9.99 for the Kindle edition. (I generally try to spend less than $6.99, as I permit my adult children to buy books on my account too, which we all share.) The $9.99 was money well spent! Not only that, but I am online now to buy the book for my sister-in-law and her husband, my brother, because I believe they, too, will be enchanted by Father Tim and Michael. The book is laugh-out-loud funny and heart-breakingly sentimental, just the way most of our lives are. I truly believe part of the joy of this book is how it is unexpected both in what will happen next and how things will turn out. So I cannot in good conscience write more without it turning into a "spoiler". The few things I will say: it doesn't matter if you are male or female, young, middle-aged, senior or even a child of 12 + yrs, in what beliefs you practice, where you grew up or what your cultural background, you will LOVE THIS BOOK. Cannot recommend it higher! Burying Father Tim
