Product Description

CD Description
Though Ireland's Cranberries began by churning out sparkling, breathy rock-pop, they soon ventured into a darker, heavier brand of rock that reflected the sociopolitical strife oftheir homeland. On BURY THE HATCHET the band achieves the perfect marriage between luxurious pop stylings and a darker, more unsettling vision. Dolores O'Riordan's strong, clear voice rides smoothly over simple, engaging melodies fleshed out by a chiming blend of acoustic and electric guitars for much of the album. But on songs like "Promises", the guitars get heavier, and the mood turns darker, showing a deeper side of the Cranberries' work. No matter the darkness expressedin the lyrics though, the invigorating, upbeat strum and crack of the guitars and drums keeps things moving at a good clip. And that occasional catch in O'Riordan's voice is just arresting enough to draw you in, without ever seeming like an affectation or a distraction.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best after "No Need To Argue", 8 Sep 2005
By Mr. S. Beattie "Bim" (Manchester, UK) - See all my reviews

Personally i think this is the best album after "No Need To Argue".
I'd say this because the formula (lyrics, melody, instrumentation) is balanced to a more successful level.
Whereas their first album and "To The Faithful Departed" are very good...i feel that some of the songs sound lost and don't really reach a high point...and i hate to say this as i class the Crans as one of my favourite bands, but some of them drone on and are a bit depressing sometimes with Dolore's voice grating after a while too.
When i put this album on i felt kinda similar on first listen...but warming to it, i think the songs are a lot catchier and give the listener a more positive and fulfilling experience!
After all this I hope i've persuaded you to part with your cash as this album will be a really worthy purchase.
Thank you..."loud and clear i make my point dear"!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best of the Best, 4 May 2006
By Mr. C. D. Parker "chris1990" (Leeds, West Yorkshire, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
The Cranberries go through fases with their albums. On Everybody Else is Doing It, their sound was mellow. On No Need To Argue, they start to rock more. On To The Faithful Departed, it's like SLIT YOUR WRISTS grungey. On Bury The Hatchet, it's like 'yeh get over it'. This album boasts a good mixture of all the Cranberries styles. Songs like 'You and Me' and 'Animal Instinct' would not feel out of place on the first album and 'Promises' would not feel out of place on No Need To Argue. This album is more up beat than the others and contains a great variety of styles seen in each of The Cranberries albums.
