5.0 out of 5 stars Paradise aint a bad place to be 22 Nov 2009
Platform for Display:PlayStation3|Edition:The Ultimate Box
Fun: 4.0 out of 5 stars
Burnout Paradise Hmmm! I am a big fan of the series and have played them all. Burnout comes to the new gen with a complete makeover. I hated it. I tossed it a side for months on end. In the end I gave up and now except the game for what it is. In fact, once you get over the fact that good old Burnout is dead and buried, this, after a while gets enjoyable.

I miss the structure of the old Burnout. Trying to win gold medals, the crash mode, the takedowns, the revenge. You get hints of it in this game but it is a new style of play.

Here we have a single city, Paradise City, where Guns and Roses play their song on every street corner. You are free to explore this city. Stop at traffic lights and you can enter the event tied to it. That is about it really. Oh, you can ram bill boards and stuff whilst you drive about the city looking for eh, traffic lights.

The events are fun and similar to old Burnout at times. You can do takedowns but this is not the purpose of the game. There is no purpose other than to build up your license and car collection. You can however race on bikes for a change.

Once you come to accept the laizze fare style gaming which is similar in style to the likes of Test Drive and Need For Speed, the game can be good fun at times. One issue I have is that it is difficult to work out where to go. In most games you get a GPS which gives arrows to point you in the right direction. Not here. You get an icon on your compass and you have to find your own way. You need to keep steering in the direction whilst looking for shortcuts and turns. At speed it is not easy. You will lose races because of this. If you get lost, simply stop and the event ends and then find another set of traffic lights.

5.0 out of 5 stars GET YOUR FACTS RIGHT 29 Jan 2009
Platform for Display:PlayStation3|Edition:The Ultimate Box
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
Ok then, i dont usually write reviews as i dont hav the time but i am one of the people who use the reviews to help me decide whether or nt i would enjoy this game, and tht is the reason i am writting here.

The reviews on here already, written by TRUEBLUE93 and MIKE NEWMAN are very misinformed, i understand that they believe they are helping and when they get it right i am grateful, but criterion have brought out this upgraded edition of the already amazing game burnout paradise for 2 very good reasons, an they are:-

1. To allow those who dont have an internet connect to enjoy the FREE DLC (downloadable content) packs they have given us (trophies, day and night cycles, and of course the bike pack)

2. To give new players access to all this great content from the moment you open the packaging

BUT they are also, which is where the previously mentioned reviewers are very wrong, they will be including the new FREE update which has:-

>new vehicle dynamics (making some easier for begginners to handle)
>more vibrant visuals
>stuntrun timer changes(you have more time given between stunts)
>road rage changes ( you will no longer get time added for takedowns after the target number is reached)
>Events are being rebalanced in anticipation for the upcomming booast car pack (release date TBA)
>There will now be an ingame store added as well, so you can purchase/download the content you want without having to leave paradise city.
>And the much requested feature that many of us have missed the ability to RESTART an event if you go wrong.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant game! 7 Jan 2012
Platform for Display:PlayStation3|Edition:The Ultimate Box
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
Firstly, I dislike most racing games because I find them...well...boring. However, I've always thought that Burnout was different, going right back to the PS2 games. I find this relevant because this still appealed to me a great deal and I enjoy it so much because it isn't just racing; there are mini challenges, you can boost to go faster and also you can take down other drivers which adds a new element.

I bought this second hand and then bought the Big Surf Island upgrade from the PSN store online for roughly 5 (which I think, if you buy this new comes included anyway but it was cheaper for me at the time to do it the way I did it). You get the bikes included either way which opens up even more challenges for your Bike License (which is different to upgrading your normal standard license for the cars). You also have a separate licence for when you are on BSI as well, which means you have plenty to do!

The main point of the game is to upgrade your license to unlock new cars to race them and complete more challenges, and this can be done in a few ways that I have found:

Race - pretty straight-forward but no race is the same; it will give you a a point A (you are here) and point B (the finish line) at the beginning of every race and you can use your map in the bottom right to navigate too and you have to come first to win.

Stunt Run - earn a certain score before the timer runs out. This will mean you have to do stunts to earn points like smashing through billboards and signs and driving off of ramps and slopes and doing wheel spins and the like.

Burning Lap - race through checkpoints in a rough circle (always different depending on which burning lap you enter) around the city to the finish line before the time runs out.
