So what's new? There are additional locations, including a twisty road round the Rocky Mountains and an inspired airport-based level. There is also a greater choice of vehicles. Naturally enough you have to balance your need for speed against the need for good handling and take into account the weather and the kind of level you're racing across.
Yet the core of Burnout 2 is still arcade-style racing and there's little else that does it better. It's incredibly accessible and an absolute blast to play. It doesn't matter whether you're competing in the enhanced single-player modes or hooking up with friends--it's completely irresistible. Visually, the game looks great and moves very, very quickly. The action is interspersed with elaborate crashes, and when you do hit something you shouldn't, you're rewarded with an action replay for your trouble.
There are genuinely very few negatives here. Those who prefer their driving games flavoured with a bit more realism are going to be happier with a Gran Turismo game. Also, despite some good improvements and additions, there aren't enormous differences between this and the original Burnout. However, Burnout 2 is an exemplary piece of gaming entertainment, and a welcome antidote to the growing band of games that just take themselves far too seriously. Treat yourself. You'll be glad you did. --Simon Brew

Move Over Gran Turismo!!,
This review is from: Burnout 2: Point of Impact (GameCube) (Video Game)
For many, the daddy of all driving games on any format was torn between Gran Turismo and Ridge Racer, i preferred the former rather than the latter. However, theres a new kid in town and its called Burnout2 - Point Of Impact! This game is so annoyingly addictive that marriages will fail and kids may starve for a few days when dad/mum get their hands on this. As well as simply racing against other cars, winning trophys, unlocking extras etc etc, you can also play (solo or multiplayer) in "Crash" mode, where you have to try and cause the biggest, most expensive pile-up possible. This isnt as easy as it sound and gets more difficult round by round. The graphics are to die for although the sound effects will get on you tittie-end after a while. That aside, if this game were a woman, it'd have the looks Kylie, the voice of an angel and the longevity of the Queen Mum! There's only 4 more words I have to say....GET THIS GAME NOW !!!!!

Burnout 2 - Short but Sweet,
This review is from: Burnout 2: Point of Impact (GameCube) (Video Game)
Ah Burnout 2, whenever you see fast cars and big explosive crashes you think, good god I need that game! Burnout 2 is a thrilling game. When you first fire it up on your gamecube you can almost feel the speed from the game. The handling is sweet as are the graphics. Detailed cars are very realistic. Also the A.I of the computer controled cars is very challenging. The tracks are very well designed so that the most experenced Burnout 2 player can sometimes struggle. Great learinig curve. So is Burnout 2 the best racing game on gamecube? So far... yes. It's almost perfect, almost. There are some faults. Crashes begin to lose their charm. The biggest fault has to be the lifespan. If you're a hardcore gamer and you know your racing games from your shooting games, Burnout 2 can be competed in a day or two. Maybe if Burnout 2 was a little longer it could of been a classic 10 out of 10! My advice, rent it first.

Racing perfection,
This review is from: Burnout 2: Point of Impact (GameCube) (Video Game)
Burnout 2 is a no-nonsense driving game. While others spend hours altering the cars ride height and suspension, fiddling with tyre pressure, getting the wing settings just right, all to go that 1 mph faster into the nearest wall and then blame the "rubbish settings", burnout 2 does not. It gives you a car, you go racing. It is a crying shame the hype surrounds Gran Tourismo 3, rather than my choice, the frankly to good to be legal looking Burnout 3.Ofcourse, some people like their realism. The crazy popularity of the average Gran tourismo series is testement to that. But burnout 2 doesn't try to be something its not, and admits that its a simple arcade racer. It achieves this by having massively user friendly handling, which is easy to pick up for beginners, but in the hands of a master can have the game pushing warp speeds. The idea of a racing game is, naturally, to win. Burnout's twist is that if you live dangerously (drive on the wrong side of the road for instance) you get yourself a boost. Chain these together and your a shoe-in for victory. Unless you hit a wall/other car/fly off a cliff. And this is where the game excels. The crash physics are fantastic, and make other games seem amature-ish. They really feel like they hurt, and make a terrible mess of your brand new sports car. And just for your enjoyment, a massive crash mode is added to see just how much damage can be done. A 30 car pile up on the M1 would look something like what can be achieved here. This is a racer that appeals to the real man. No frilly brake settings or steering camber in this game to hide a lack of talent. You finish this game because you are the best racer, not because you have the best car. And that is what makes a classic racing game.
