4.0 out of 5 stars Redundancy can be a blessing, 23 Jun 2008
By Daniel A (London, England) - See all my reviews
If you are looking for a book about what specifically you need to do next having been made redundant, then this isn't the book for you. But, if on the other hand you are interested in reading one man's personal account of just what happened to him when presented with the P45, i.e. how he initially reacted, his thoughts, feelings, fears, hopes and experiences, then this is worth a read. Indeed, it is somewhat refreshing and distinct from the many similar works out there on the same theme, being, for once, that it isn't written by someone theorizing what you should do next, but not having the faintest idea what it is like to be in that situation.

It really is more about the process of discovering who you are, particularly that you are more than simply a job or a pay packet; a necessary reminder that you are not alone; and that the journey henceforth may not necessarily be straightforward, but nor need it be. I certainly found myself relating to many of the themes raised, even if my own circumstances were somewhat different.

The style is, as I have indicated, autobiographical, and thus very direct, if at times a little jarring, but all the better for it, and far removed from many of the textbooks out there.

At the very least it will entertain you, but may actually help you finally accept yourself for who you are and more importantly look deep within for the answer to the eternal quest, i.e. what should I do with my life?
