Book Description

"Burning Lands" is a story of the battle between the oppressive suffocation that is civilization and the wild unpredictability that comes with real freedom. In a world two hundred years after a planetwide cataclysm, the descendants of a great war's survivors are only now pulling themselves out of the chaos of the aftermath. The descendants of the Great Enemy, stranded on these shores for generations, have unified and begun to rebuild a new civilization on the ashes of the old. Their hope is to bury the animosities of the past, a lasting feud that no longer seems relevant. Poised against them are the wild natives of this land, who still cling to fragments of their ancestral memory of freedom, and yearn for independence from these foreign "invaders".

5.0 out of 5 stars Best book ever written!!!!!! 31 Aug. 2009
By Chris M. Johnson - Published on
"Burning Lands" is the first book I ever read based off of a RPG world. As a player of "Darwin's World", I found this novel to be excellently descriptive, and a great way to improve my own charaters in "Darwin's World". I highly recommend anyone who is into Post-apocalyptic senarios NEEDS to read this book! I love it. Thank you Mr. Covey for a great read, I couldn't put it down.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome Adventure Story... not too fantasy and not too sci-fi... just right 17 April 2013

I love the writing style with its detailed descriptions of the settings and characters. You get a great sense of how the post apocalyptic Earth became Darwin’s World. The plots and interactions keep you on your toes and keep you guessing. There is a good amount of fantasy/sci-fi elements, but it does not overwhelm the story, nor does it dominate the day-to-day of the world. If you love role-playing games, but have never tried a post apocalyptic setting, then I highly recommend reading this novel. It’s comparable to what the Tolkien books did for the classic fantasy settings.

Characters were excellent and well-developed. Plot dragged in a few places. Great imaginative works-building. Just what I was in the mood for!
