This compilation is very simular to the 'Sequel/Castle Music' anthology that came out in 2001. That had 56 tracks and covered the 'Scottie/Tau', 'Gone' & 'Red Bird' material. This anthology has 58 tracks and covers the 'Scottie/Tau', 'Gone' & 'Reprise' tracks. It comes with a 6 sided (folded) booklet which does its job and no more. The sound quality is very good overall especially from a company I've never heard of 'GVC Recordings'. Many of the tracks are in both Mono and Stereo.

Cd 1. (69.51mins). Contains the singles from 'That's all right with me' to 'Beyond the heartbreak'. What will strike you first is that Ral Donner sounds alot like Elvis on most of these tracks, but don't let be the only thing you hear as Ral Donner was an excellent singer and artist in his own right. Most of these singles are top notch – ‘School of heartbreakers' is fantastic as is ‘Will you love me in Heaven', 'You don't know what...' and as for the 'Reprise' tracks 'I got burned', 'Christmas Day' and 'I wish this night would never end' are truly outstanding. I have waited a long time for the 'Reprise' tracks to be released all on one cd, they sound great. Should have all been huge hits.

Cd 2. (71.39mins). Contains Stereo cuts, album tracks and rarities - 'Tears of misery', 'Puddle of tears' along with 'Nite Owl' are some of my favourites. Also includes an unreleased track 'Cinderella Twist (movie version)' from the film 'Dance craze' 1962.

Overall, a fantastic compilation. Highly recommended. 9.5/10. (shame the Red Bird material wasn't included.)

Ignore Amazon's 28 track listings - there are actually 58 tracks on the 2 discs, 28 on CD 1 and 30 on CD 2. Sound quality is great and it's nice to see his Reprise singles, which were definitely some of his best recordings, included. Recommended!

So Sincere 13 April 2014

There have been seeming endless comparisons between Ral's voice and singing style and Elvis'.While there's no doubt about the voce comparison and, many times, the style, the real comparison should between the two's sincerity when recording,as both ,no matter how lame the material, ever walked through any song.In regards to lame material,Rals' is less, simply because the man lived a shorter while. And regarding this 2 cd set,you won't find much inferior songwriting. The great ones are here:"Girl of My Best Friend," "You Don't Know What You've GoT" and "She's Everything," the last two Ral's masterpieces both in song and sound. They are as great as any of Elvis' beauties. While they sound a bit like him, they don't,Ral ripping through in HIS way. This cd compilation is worth buying for the stereo on all three,as the stereo here, especially on headphones, reveals the nuances in his phrasing like no other stereo I've heard. The booklet is great as well, as is the packaging in general. When I first heard that this set was coming out ,I asked,"Where the hell is the market for it? Does anyone still care.let alone know, about Ral Donner(except people like me....I just dropped $60 for a wonderfully clean copy of his only LP,purple sticker and all)? But,obviously, there is ,as the copies,I've learned, are selling quickly. And that's to everyone's good,as this guy is a singer-supreme,singing a ballad and rockin' with the best.Plus,I've heard,he was a really nice guy.Enjoy.......
