Book Description

#1 New York Times bestselling author Ilona Andrews launches a brand-new Hidden Legacy series, in which one woman must place her trust in a seductive, dangerous man who sets off an even more dangerous desire . . .

Nevada Baylor is faced with the most challenging case of her detective career—a suicide mission to bring in a suspect in a volatile situation. Nevada isn't sure she has the chops. Her quarry is a Prime, the highest rank of magic user, who can set anyone and anything on fire.

Then she's kidnapped by Connor "Mad" Rogan—a darkly tempting billionaire with equally devastating powers. Torn between wanting to run and wanting to surrender to their overwhelming attraction, Nevada must join forces with Rogan to stay alive.

Rogan's after the same target, so he needs Nevada. But she's getting under his skin, making him care about someone other than himself for a change. And, as Rogan has learned, love can be as perilous as death, especially in the magic world.

The stakes are high throughout, the action is tight, and the romance steamy...Readers will burn for the next installment. (Booklist (starred review), BURN FOR ME)

About the Author

"Ilona Andrews" is the pseudonym for a husband-and-wife writing team. Ilona is a native-born Russian and Gordon is a former communications sergeant in the U.S. Army. Contrary to popular belief, Gordon was never an intelligence officer with a license to kill, and Ilona was never the mysterious Russian spy who seduced him. They met in college, in English Composition 101, where Ilona got a better grade. (Gordon is still sore about that.) They have co-authored two New York Times and USA Today bestselling series—the urban fantasy of Kate Daniels and the romantic urban fantasy of The Edge—and are working on the next volumes for both. They live in Texas with their two children and many dogs and cats.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic! 5 Nov. 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This was phenomenally awesome! Think of your most favourite chocolate indulgence and then triple it! I think this has to be my favourite ILlona Andrews book to date and that's saying something. The writing was so slick every word counted, filled with depth and meaning. I won't bore you all with what happened because already there are a few hundred reviews out there, I'll give you my impressions of the characters.

Firstly Nevada, she's an intriguing character and I absolutely loved her. She's tough, strong and very capable but with a streak of vulnerability and definitely thinks before she acts. She's had to grow up fast and make a way for herself and her family and her loyalty to them is admirable. She would literally die for them. She does however have that wonderful inner voice that we have come to expect from the wonderful Illona Andrews team, full of humour and commentary on any situation. Some of her come backs were wonderful, wish I could come up with stuff like that!

Next on to the family, Grandma Frida is one amazing character and one I very much want to know more about. She can come and be my grandma any day! Who wouldn't love a tank mechanic tough talking Grandma around to talk some romantic sense into them! Penelope, Nevada's mother was wonderful, I feel her pain, both physical and mental. She is a complicated person and I loved that she both gave advice and took advice from her daughter. She was one very cool mum and I feel there are a lot of secrets to her past. Between her and Frida I wonder about Nevada's magical hereditary.

The rest of the family were also a typical dysfunctional loving assortment of characters. I particularly fell for Bern, Nevada's cousin and right hand man with computers. He was brilliant.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Hidden Legacy" series book 1 5 Nov. 2014
By Book Addict TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Kindle Edition
I love this author and had high expectations of this new series. This new universe isn't dissimilar to that found in IA's "The Edge" series; yet rather than magical talents only found in another realm, in this series a serum is invented in the mid 1800's that unlocks magical talents in ordinary people. Circulated predominantly amongst the military and elite rich, generations later status is based on strong hereditary magic. Families with strong magic have evolved into dynasties in which careful selective breeding produces even stronger abilities in their offspring.

In a world where you are judged on the power of your magic and the connections you have, Nevada Baylor doesn't exactly scream high society. Perceived to have no magical ability, Nevada keeps her own talent hidden; an ability that is incredibly useful in her line of work as a private investigator. Mortgaged to the hilt and trying to keep the business afloat as well as keeping a roof over her family's head, Nevada has no choice but to accept an impossible mission to bring in alive a young man who has allegedly incinerated a policeman using his pyrokinetic power.

What Nevada doesn't anticipate is drawing the attention of one of the most notorious, powerful and unstable Prime magic users around; Mad Rogan. He has his own interest in the case, but suddenly faced with Nevada and her sass, he finds himself developing a new interest. Nevada considers him totally out of her league; physically, socially and magically, plus she finds his casual killing of people that annoy him somewhat chilling, yet she can't stop imagining him naked.

Mad Rogan is not a particularly nice individual, yet I grew to like him more and more as the story line progressed.

5.0 out of 5 stars 4.5 stars – an amazing start to a new series! 3 Nov. 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
Burn For Me was freaking fantastic. FANTASTIC, PEOPLE, FANTASTIC. Nevada is a character who keeps on going no matter what. When she’s given the suicidal job of tracking down Adam Pierce (who sets people and buildings on fire for kicks) she has a moment where it feels like the world is collapsing around her but then after that she is game. She focuses on the challenge and starts working at it, one task at a time. On top of that, Nevada doesn’t take crap from anyone. Even with people who scare the bejeezus out of her, like Mad Rogan and Pierce, she stands her ground. And then there’s her magic! Oh my gosh, how could I forget her magic! Nevada is a Truthseeker and can tell when people lie to her. I loved how this added to her personality and her ability to do her job.

Mad Rogan was my second favourite character (not surprised, I knew this would happen) and all I can say, is Curran has some competition for being the best crazy and lethal alpha male out there. Did that make sense? I can’t tell… moving on! Rogan and Nevada’s relationship had the best slow-burn romance EVER. The sexual tension was off the chart but there was also a degree of trust that slowly started to bloom. I say slowly because Mad Rogan is a killer through and through and a lot of his actions Nevada can’t condone. But still – one of my favourite couples :D .

Okay – world-building and setting. While the “rules” of Nevada’s world didn’t pull me in as much as Ilona Andrew’s other urban fantasy series, the Kate Daniels books, it was still really good. The way society is run by the Houses and all the power plays were intriguing and I’m looking forward to being back in this Houston.

All in all this book is a must read – a pick-it-up-right-now kind of book :) . This author is one of my all-time favourites and Burn For Me just cemented that for me!
