Book Description

23 Oct 2008
'Buonissimo!', Gino's second book builds on the success of his first, 'Fantastico!', which was the perfect introduction to his cooking style. In 'Buonissimo!' Gino shows you how to make food that is simple, sexy, but very, very satisfying. It is his cookbook for the people - because it contains recipes for everybody, whether you live by yourself, with a friend or partner or as part of a big family. Gino believes that food brings people together, and the way the chapters are organised reflects this: 'Facile facile' is full of recipes that take hardly any time or ingredients to make but taste fantastic. The recipes in 'Per Tutti i Giorni' are cosy weekday suppers - quick, easy and perfect for families. For modern life, Gino's recipes are straightforward and unpretentious, focusing on flavour rather than complicated cooking techniques or expensive ingredients.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent and understandable recipes. 19 Jan 2009
Format:Paperback
I've owned this book for a couple of weeks now and have tried a number of the recipes. Every one so far has worked and tasted delicious! I'm fairly new to cooking proper food and so am grateful that the recipes are easy to understand and that the ingredients are possible to obtain, even on the Isle of Man! I'm so pleased with this book that I'm about to order its predecessor 'Fantastico'

If you like Italian, (Men or Food, doesn't matter which :-) ) this is the book for you. Leads you through learning to cook like a pro in such easy steps. The food produced is delicious, but also leaves room for a little adaptation if you want to personalise the dishes. His other book 'Fantastico!' is equally as good. All this and good looking as well. Some men just have all the luck!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulous! 20 April 2010
By Magpie
Format:Paperback
Straightforward, easy recipes that taste fabulous. The set up of the book is great as well, with sections on cooking for two, for one and for groups, as well as meals for special occasions. Instructions are clear and well laid out, and the photos are beautiful. I will definately be looking to get his other cookbooks.

5.0 out of 5 stars Buonissimo! 3 Aug 2011
By Marand TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Paperback
This is a great selection of recipes, with plenty of variety, and generally quick and easy to prepare. The book is divided into five chapters: Romantico (elegant recipes for two), Per Me (recipes for one), Per tutti i Giorni (Everyday suppers), Facile Facile (easy, but impressive recipes), Salute (party food).

To give you an idea of the recipes, here are a few of my favourites: Little gnocchi with truffle oil, butter & sage (made from scratch); salmon & creamy leek parcels (using shop bought filo pastry so ideal for those who worry about pastry making); king prawns in caper & tomato sauce; stuffed pasta shells; roast sea bream with rosemary & garlic; chicken wrapped in parma ham with a creamy herb sauce;a version of toad in the hole with rosemary & red onions; a really good maccheroni cheese; a vegetable bake; lamb tagine; stuffed pimentos. There are some excellent soups including a particularly nice fresh pea & parsley soup, and also some good accompaniments such as roasted squash with sage & chilli.

There are also some really good desserts too - banana fritters with a quick caramel sauce, a stunning lemon & mango tart, chocolate bread & butter pudding, marzipan stuffed peach with meringue, strawberries & raspberries layered with whiskey cream, and best of all for me, an ice-cream cake with nougat & amaretto which is a doddle to make.

All told, a useful book, with plenty for the time-pressed cook.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy Italian food 5 Jan 2014
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I already had 'Gino's Pasta' and having been very impressed with that, decided to expand my Gino repertoire. His recipes are truly Italian: very very simple to make, using ordinary ingredients that ordinary people can buy from an ordinary supermarket - yet the results are amazing - I've never yet been disappointed by any Gino dish I've cooked, and it always tastes like restaurant quality (and I am no cook, believe me!)

This book features very little pasta, so is a nice change - it includes lots of meat dishes and puddings. It also contains recipes for one or two people as well as for 4 or more, so you can cook for yourself without having to do complicated maths!
