Product Description

A double bill of comedy from the TV archives, featuring one of the funniest comedians Britain has ever produced. In the first show Cooper is accidentally involved in a civil defence programme, attempts to read a newspaper, and shares a café table with Arthur Mullard. In the second, the befezed one takes us through some hilarious everyday situations that are bound to court disaster.

4.0 out of 5 stars VINTAGE TOMMY 26 Dec 2001
By Karl
This splendid tape stands apart from all the other Tommy Cooper compilations that I know of in that a) it consists of complete episodes of programs, rather than clips, b) the material is all from the 1960s, and c) the bulk of the running time has T.C. performing in the context of sketches, rather than doing standup. So we get to see Tommy, unedited, in his peak period, interacting with other performers in a variety of situations. (I'm probably in a minority, but I most enjoy watching him reacting to others, fully utilizing the wonderful face that, as Spike Milligan once said, "was like a cry for help.")

Despite the fact that some of this material is underwritten, and almost all of it underrehearsed (a Cooper hallmark, one gathers), this tape has many grand moments, and Tommy's wonderful energy comes through at all times (in sharp contrast to those videos compiled primarily fom his declining years.) True, the kinescopes (aka telerecordings) aren't in the best of shape, but that's a small price to pay to be able to see such great stuff.

5.0 out of 5 stars BUMPER DOUBLE BILL 6 April 2013

Tommy Cooper was a British staple. An original and much loved comedian with his own style. He contributed a number of catch phrases to the English Language and is remembered with great fondness.
