Product Description

Product Description

It all started with a dream. During a semester abroad in Europe, Savannah Page visited Berlin, got lost in a former East German neighborhood, and made a discovery...and a promise. She was enamored of the multikulti city that offered her everything she wanted in a home: big city-life, rich history, on continental Europe, and a diverse community. She was determined to call Berlin home some day.

Five years later, she and her husband found themselves making the giant jump from the heart of America in Oklahoma across the Atlantic to the bustling capital of Germany. Berlin had officially become home and things couldn't have been more perfect.

Until she realized that being bumped to Berlin meant learning the way of the world, auf Deutsch. In a world where there is a place for everything, and everything is in its place...and then some.

In this convivial, witty and delightful personal / travel narrative, Savannah shares her adventures--and love and frustration--of expatriate life in the land of beer and brats.

From discovering the art of grocery shopping to the simple joys that freshly baked bread hold; from the perpetually looming air of paranoia that invades nearly every aspect of German life to the peculiar way the Krauts enjoy their rare moments of good weather, Bumped to Berlin is Savannah's story of becoming a Berliner. Of being an American living abroad in a city that is surprising her at every turn, and is a constant reminder that dreams can come true...even if they're flavored with a bit of paranoia, excessive cleanliness, and unpronounceable vowels.

Bumped to Berlin is sure to entertain readers who enjoy armchair travels and playful anecdotes of expatriate life.

Disappointing 9 Feb 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
This is a disappointing book, especially for any reader hoping to learn something about Berlin. It could have been titled, 'Bumped to Europe'. It badly needs editing as regards both language and content. There are too many spelling mistakes of the kind that an automatic spell check would not pick up ('bare' instead of 'bear', 'tax' instead of 'tacks' etc.) and even mistakes of vocabulary.

This book is about an American living in Europe. It misses description of Berlin but has detailed analysis on how to clean faucets.

Berlin my next stop 29 Dec 2011

It's not easy to write a book about once life experiences, and also expose a soul of a city. In a her book Bumped to Berlin Savannah Page as done exactly that. She carefully crafted her journey, by giving the reader a sense of this great city. I have never visited this city, but after finishing this book, I am making it my next vacations destination. What I also liked, was her easy conversational tone, that make it impossable to stop reading. I felt that I knew the writer very well. Well done Savannah.

Good memories 3 Feb 2012

I enjoyed this reflection of.life as an ex pat in Germany. I spent several years in the.southern part of the country. I especially loved the grocery store stories. I remember ordering 4'0 grams of meat thinking 400 of anything was a lot! I was rather embarrassed to discover I had barely enough for a sandwich much less the meal I was planning. Later I got to know the butcher and we had a good laugh.the reason I didn't go for 5 stars was the references to "krauts " which I found somewhat offensives.
