i bought this thinking would be handy to pop my son in when doing things, instead of his bouncer, but initially he really didnt like it as there is no room for movement.he is now 4.5 months and is trying to tip himself backwards out of it so i have got no use from it at all, i really wish i hadnt spent the money on it, i can see the idea behind it but think would only suit a baby who is not active.

Oh how I wish these were about when my previous three babies were born!

This is one of those pieces of equipment that you buy and think ''hmmm, a bit pricey, and the baby will grow out of it so quickly'' .

However, I have found, so far, that it has been worth every pound spent. It is just perfect for early weaning for that really awkward stage when your baby is too young to sit in a high chair and too big to be fed in the crook of your arm.

It really does free your hands and makes feeding a cynch.

It is also great for letting baby sit and watch you going about your business. I also put a baby gym in front of mine and she sits and happily bashes away at the toys. It is also brilliant to take out and about so the baby has somewhere safe, clean and suitable to sit wherever you are.

To me, the baby is safe and secure. I can't see, at this stage (5 months) how she can possibly fall out of it, although I can see that an older baby could easily reach down to touch the ground with their hand and topple out - but as I say, a much older baby who would probably be more mobile by then anyway. I would always recommend keeping it on the floor but if you must put it on a raised, flat surface, never take your eyes off it. Never put it on a soft surface like a sofa or bed as it would and does very easily topple over.

This is a more sturdy design with a wider base or footprint than the Lionheart BeBePod so I feel it has the edge in this regard. I also feel that if your baby is on the larger side or taller than average, this is a seat that you will get more use of.

I guess I can't possibly see a baby sitting in it up to the age of 14 months - they may actually fit in it still, but getting them to stay put would be another matter! So realistically you will get less than a few months reliable use of it - but what crucial months they are!

The Bumbo is a seat that enables babies to sit unaided. It can be used as soon as baby can lift their head - I would say at around 3 or 4 months. The Bumbo should stop being used when the child is able to remove themselves from the Bumbo - the company suggest at around 12 - 14 months but I would suggest around 11 months depending on how active and developed your baby is.

The Bumbo is deep and has high sides and high back for support. There is also a support between the legs to keep the legs apart and prevent baby from falling fowards. The Bumbo comes in one size and are small enough to make tiny babies feel snug and enclosed but are also very spacious. It should be used on a flat surface, at ground level and not up high (chairs, kitchen counters etc) or in water for safety reasons.

The material which Bumbos are made from is very hard to explain - I would say they are a mixture of rubber and foam, and whilst they are very soft and cosy they are also very tough and solid.

I brought a Bumbo for my daughter when she was around 4 months old and it was an immediate god send. She took to it instantly and really seemed to enjoy the independence of sitting up by herself. I would give her toys and surround her with toys so she wouldn't get bored and could make her own fun (sadly there are no toys or activities attached to the Bumbo). She had just started on solid food but couldn't sit up by herself so a high chair was out of the question - feeding was made so easy for both of us thanks to the Bumbo. It also proved very useful when I needed to get other things done - mainly housework and preparing food - I could pop her in her Bumbo next to me and know she was safe and secure (we had a bouncer but she never liked it) whilst I got things done. The Bumbo also came in very handy for social occasions and events (christmas etc) as she could get involved and was able to interact with everybody.

Other good points of the Bumbo are there is no need to set it up, it is very lightweight for adults but hard for little ones to move and lift, it is portable (very useful for visiting friends and family), it's very durable and is extremely easy to wipe clean. The pink Bumbo is also very cute and girlie looking.

The downsides of the Bumbo is that we didn't get much use out of it - only about 4 months. Once my daughter had learnt to sit up by herself at about 6 months, she was very wriggly and before long mastered the art of escaping her Bumbo (it has no restraints to keep them in). She would either lean to one side until she popped out of the chair or straighten her legs out until she lifted herself out - luckily we caught her on MOST occassions but if we hadn't there could have been a lot of nasty accidents. The Bumbo is very safe and secure until baby becomes more active, then it becomes more of a hazard and you need to watch over them constantly!
