5.0 out of 5 stars Great read, 31 Oct 2009
By Phill (North East England) - See all my reviews
Thoroughly enjoyable read. Parts of the dialogue had me laughing out loud. Let's hope it is not too long before the next Jimmy Bain book appears.

5.0 out of 5 stars Noir ya bass!, 22 April 2009
By Mark Mackay (Scotland) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Down these mean streets a man must go who is not himself mean; who is neither tarnished nor afraid... Aye, right! That man couldn't make it, so instead, Jimmy Bain brings you `The Narrator' (a man with no name) and The Bumble (a man with no shame) in this fast-paced neo-noir crime caper.

Seedy private eyes, bent coppers, gangsters, weaselly informants, femmes fatale and all the unusual suspects are given a distinctively Scottish twist and a hefty infusion of black humour through the jaundiced view and wise-cracks of the un-named narrator as he, and a cast of memorable characters, get arrested, double-crossed, shot at, set upon by dogs, set on fire, and subjected to sundry other indignities and general insults in pursuit of lost relatives, lost Nazi gold, and more than a few lost marbles.

If you're a fan of Chris Brookmyre (particularly his Jack Parlabane novels) give The Bumble's End a go - you won't be disappointed. And if you are, there's a big guy with a sawn-off shotgun and a rottweiler called Tango who'd like a quiet word.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic read! Best book I've looked at this year!, 17 April 2009
By Rossb2003 (Newcastle) - See all my reviews
From the 1st page I was hooked - the way that the "Narator" and his surroundings are described is excellent. I couldnt stop laughing in parts and didnt want to put the book down. A really intriguing plot with lots of twists and turns. I would recommended this book to anyone and everyone!
