Review

Absolutely from-the-hip, practical advice on how to cope with bullying . In this 115 page paperback, Neville Evans, an award winning Police Officer, answers a lot of questions you might like to ask. What do I do to avoid trouble? How does the law protect me or my children? Written from a street awareness perspective, Bullied is a little gem for those seeking realistic suggestions to diffuse aggression at school, in the workplace or in the pub on a Saturday night. Covering verbal bullying, domestic abuse and relationship break-up, Bullied is essential reading for anyone wanting a flight plan to follow if they are being victimised. Bullied has clear step by step instructions from how much and exactly what to record if you receive threatening texts or physical and emotional bullying at work, for example, which is a must for anyone daunted by being told write it down . Bullied has a wealth of good advice from how to make a police statement to what to expect when attending a Employment Tribunal. In fact Neville has covered a whole range of issues which need addressing by anyone unfortunate enough to be caught up in the insidious web of bullying behaviour. Aimed primarily at assisting the victim to develop coping skills, there is a wealth of practical advice in Bullied from simple meditation advices to exercises in developing human observation. Well worth a read. --Act against bullying

The advice to students is good as it offers strategies rather than platitudes. It is the best I have seen! I have found your book very interesting. Having been involved in the field of Anti-Bullying for many years I continue to be concerned about how little work has been done on prevention strategies for both victims and to some extent bullies. I was pleased therefore to read evidence of this in your book. I work in boys school but despite this the majority of bullying is of a low level i.e. name calling and teasing etc which is dealt with quite easily. Occasionally this behaviour can be persistent and escalates but with the help of parents is also dealt with effectively. Giving 'victims' of this type of persistent bullying strategies to employ in the future is more effective than simply telling off the bully. It also empowers the victim making him feel less of a victim. I think that more work should be done in this area. We survey pupils each year and find that in the lower years 7 to 8 bullying is more frequent but the type of bullying in older year groups 9,10 and 11 changes and becomes more connected with relationships and power struggles. Older pupils find the use of strategies more difficult to employ as they perceive that they are ineffective. It can take a while to convince these pupils that such techniques work. --School Teacher

A well informed and extremely useful guide to the complex world of bullying. Neville's thorough research gives an important insight into the varied forms of this age old problem and offers useful tips on how to survive and avoid being bullied." --Pam Evans (peace mala)

Superb book that covers all the aspects and areas of the subject. As a reader who has previously experienced bullying as a youngster, I found that I could relate to this book easily and the information and advice given has helped my development both professionally and at a personal level.
