4.0 out of 5 stars Ancient but still brilliant 17 Aug 2007
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
You don't watch Some Like It Hot for its Spielberg special effects, you don't expect a 1966 E-Type to drive like a Bugatti Veyron and you don't expect Magic Carpet to measure up to recent games: it's been out for 12 years. But is still has that great visual atmosphere, the eerie sound and music, the gameplay still gets frantic and many of the levels present a real challenge. One of the complaints from certain players was that it was too difficult. Yeah- well, taking out a Wyvern with Single Fireball while a meteor-flinging Crab munches up your castle takes a bit of doing... One of the most imaginative and efective shoot-em-ups ever: just don't expect it to be Battlefield 1942 or Oblivion.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great fun 11 Aug 2007
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
This is a fantastic game and one of my all time favourites. I dont really understand how the previous reviewer could in 2007 be having such high hopes for the graphics etc of a game that was made in 1994.

yes its old but the graphics are still pretty amazing for its time and the playability is fantastic. You do not need a tutorial unless you are very stupid. It is all in the instruction manual but it is very easy to pick up anyway and I never bothered to really read the manual. The spells are easy to use and the controls are self explantory. There are more than 50 levels each one getting progressively harder. You start on your own with just a few birds to kill, but then it builds up to playing against other wizards and defeating massive monsters.

It can be quite mindless sometimes but its incredible fun and for a game made 13 years ago it stands the test of time very well.

2.0 out of 5 stars YAWN! 10 Jun 2007
Fun: 1.0 out of 5 stars
Okay, I will be honest. I had high hopes for this games. The idea for it is original and could have held many nice surprises but unfortunately, the surprises are few and the rest of the game was poorly put together. The graphics are, to be fair, poor at best. The control scheme is awkward and at many times confusing, there is no tutuorial for you to get to grips with any controls nor how to use the many spells and there is no sense of completion. If you have the imagination of a child and the patience of a God give it a try if not, spend your money on something more worthwhile.
