Product Description

THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF GUNS ON OUR STREETS. THIS IS THE STORY OF ONE. Ricky (Ashley Walters, aka So Solid Crew's Asher D), just out of a young offenders' institute and heading home to Hackney, is determined to go straight. Instead, he heads into trouble when he becomes involved in a street clash and sides with his best friend Wisdom against a local gang member. The trouble escalates into a series of incidents that threaten to spiral out of control. Ricky's 12-year-old brother Curtis, adores Ricky but seems smart enough to know he doesn't want to follow his example. However, despite the warnings from his mother, Ricky's bad boy appeal might prove to be too attractive for Curtis to resist. With a sound track by Robert Del Naja (Massive Attack), Bullet boy is a gritty and realistic look at life in the violent world of Britain's gun culture.

4.0 out of 5 stars Bullet Boy 15 Nov 2005
Format:DVD
If there is one objective that any self-respecting director aims to achieve then it is this: to touch a nerve and connect with his audience. Only through this achievement can the message and/or morals of a film be fully understood by the spectators. In my opinion Saul Dibb manages to attain this goal with his portrayal of a vicious cycle of life in the streets of Hackney.Walters, considering he was a jailed member of So Solid Crew not so long ago, is a potentially risky choice of leading man but the gamble by Dibb in green-lighting him for his first major role can be considered to have paid dividends. Having been jailed for gun offences Walters has a wealth of experience to tap into and is able to convey the poignant messages of the director. Firstly, and quite simply, that guns are bad. Secondly, that deprived areas are difficult to extricate yourself from, in both social and economic contexts. To bring this review to a quick and simple end: see this film, you won't be disappointed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not a British Boyz n the Hood...better! 3 April 2006
Format:DVD
To label this film a British Boyz n the Hood does it a disservice. It was finitely more nuanced in its script and the acting was superb. Importantly, the struggles over masculinity are multilayered and the role of men in these boys lives isn't overdetermined. Finally, for once black mothers aren't demonized, but depicted as doing their best to raise upstanding black men in a society hostile to blackness.

By GT
Format:DVD
I was sceptical about this movie at first but after watching it I can honestly say it is one of the best films I have ever seen.

The whole movie is incredibly realistic and graphically shows the reality of life in gun ridden areas of the UK.

Some people have described this movie as "the UK version of boyz in the hood", although it is very different from boys in the hood and completely unique in style and storyline, I can understand what people mean.

It shows in graphic detail how the smallest of everyday incidents can lead to violence and murder.

In the news you may hear about somebody who was shot the previous day, this movie takes you in to the entire story behind such incidents to give you a clear picture of what really went on, rather than the 5 second news bulletin.

Real, Gritty and hard hitting - No matter who you are and where you're from you should see this film!
