Bulleit Rye is the ultimate expression of a rye whiskey, achieved by its commitment to a 95% rye content, versus the industry standard of 51%. This creates a spicy finish perfect for classic cocktails including The Manhattan, Old Fashioned and The Sazerac. With rye being a cornerstone to the Bulleit Bourbon recipe, Bulleit Rye had long been a dream of Tom Bulleit’s, as it was the next natural extension of the Bulleit brand. For years, bartenders and mixologists alike requested that Tom add a rye whiskey to the Bulleit range and since it launched in the US in 2011, it has since grown to become the biggest rye whiskey in the US.
From the Manufacturer
High rye content has always been the signature of Tom Bulleit's distinctive bourbon. It was only a matter of time before he created a rye whiskey.
Bulleit Rye is an award-winning, small batch, straight rye whiskey with a character of unparalleled spice and complexity. Released in 2011, it continues to enjoy recognition as one of the highest quality ryes available.
Russet in color, with rich oaky aromas. The flavour is notably smooth, with hints of vanilla, honey, and spice. Finishes crisp and clean, with long, lingering flavours.
90 proof (45% ABV) 95% rye, 5% malted barley
A tavern keeper in 1830s Louisville, Kentucky, Augustus Bulleit was dedicated to a single goal: the creation of a bourbon unique in flavour. After experimenting with countless varieties in small-batch trials, he finally came upon a bourbon with the character he had long sought after.
One fateful day, while transporting his barrels of bourbon from Kentucky to New Orleans, Augustus Bulleit vanished. What happened is still unknown, and his creation nearly disappeared into history along with him.
In 1987, Thomas E. Bulleit, Jr., fulfilled a lifelong dream of reviving an old family bourbon recipe by starting the Bulleit Distilling Company. Inspired by his great-great-grandfather Augustus Bulleit, who made a high-rye whiskey between 1830-1860, Tom left a successful law practice and risked everything to experience life on the frontier.
To this day, Bulleit Bourbon is distilled and aged in small batches. High rye content gives it a bold, spicy character with a distinctively smooth, clean finish. Kentucky limestone-filtered water provides a foundation for the bourbon's character, while charred American oak barrels lend a smoky backbone. The aging philosophy is simple: "we wait until our bourbon is ready".

The initial sip you get a great kick of heat from the whiskey, but it's not overwhelming at all but is enough to take notice, dominated by complex mixture of spices and a sweet fruity taste which I've been informed that is cherry, but I still struggle to put my finger on it being cherry just yet (I have a palate in training haha). After that sip the rye begins to open up and the dryness becomes more obvious as you finish but there is something about it that makes you go back for more. It's a drink that you need to try, even if just buying and trying at a restaurant/pub/bar or wherever to understand the value you get from buying a bottle.
Overall it's smooth to drink especially when neat (I recommend enjoying it neat over cocktail mixes, tastes much better in my opinion), it's something that you can open to drink at home by yourself or with family to relax with that won't disappoint.
I like Rye Whiskey, but this doesn't really taste like a rye whiskey at first, the rye flavours seems almost non existent, and seems to be dominated by sweet and fruity flavours. Its supposedly cherry but I think there must be multiple flavours.
Jim Beam Red Stag is a Black Cherry Bourbon and that has a very pronounced sweet and deep flavoured cherry, its clearly cherry you get, but this, this isn't clearly cherry, its almost like a mixture of fruits.
Once the kick from the whiskey is gone and the initial sweetness, its nice and spicy, the rye shines a little brighter. I would have liked rye to be a stronger taste given its called RYE, I would have liked a more cherry flavour also, less cherry and more honey/vanilla/etc but as it is the early taste just ain't all that good but overall its nice. I wouldn't order this when I was out, but occasional drop well worth it.

Lovely spicey drink. More subtle than the regular Bulleit bourbon. Both excellent drinks and too drinkable.Published 8 days ago by Mr. P. N. MCCARTHY
