This book is clear, relates to all aspects of bulimia and can be read by those suffering from the illness as well as those striving to understand the complexities of this eating disorder. The author does not set symptons and causes in stone but simply points out issues that can surround the illness. (Important as noone, including people around the sufferer experience it in the same way).

A self help guide can help an individual to recovery and is done in very easy steps that continually give confidence to the person.

For anyone willing to want to find out more about bulimia this book is a must.

Before I bought this book (March 2001) I was too scared to tell anyone about my bulimia and I didn't know where to turn but I knew I couldn't carry on the way I was because I was very unhappy. Almost as soon as I had read the book I had stopped throwing up and the binging got less and less. It takes time and sometimes you'll seem to be taking a step backwards but you're not it's all part of the learning process. The book makes sense and is straight forward but you need to take it seriously and dedicate time in your life to it. Now I don't binge, I eat whatever I want and I'm happy with the way I look, in fact I'd say I'm happier with my body than most people I know. I later went to counselling to deal with the reasons behind my bulimia which was also helpful. Just remember it takes time, you don't have to be perfect, the majority of people comfort eat to a certain extent and counselling might be helpful.

I am a counsellor currently studying to become an eating disorder specialist and this book offers a great insight into binge eating and bulimia. It is easy to read and consists of 2 parts the first being a general introduction to these disorders which is very useful, especially if you have little or no knowledge of these. The second part is a self help guide for people suffering from either disorder. Although I would always recommend that they would seek help from professionals in first instance, I think the book may be helpful for 'something to fall back on' reasons. In my opinion a worthwile addition to all who have to deal either through personal circumstances (ie friends, family etc) or personally with the devastation these disorders cause.
