More About the Author

Robert Wicks is the author of four adventure motorcycling titles from Haynes. He has always had a passion for adventure travel and motorcycles and has worked in the media and sports marketing industries for much of his career, including several years with the Superbike World Championship and MotoGP. An avid outdoor enthusiast and keen photographer, Robert's travels have taken him to more than 50 countries and it has been a long-time personal ambition to see this particular book published.

The latest book in the series is entitled: The World's Great Adventure Routes. "Picking a route is one of the most exciting prospects for any adventure motorcyclist and in this book the world's greatest routes have been compiled into a unique single collection for the first time," says Robert.

The World's Great Adventure Motorcycle Routes presents more than 30 of the greatest routes across the globe, all brought to life by the best collection of adventure motorcycling photography and maps ever assembled in one volume.

Using real-world advice and planning from some of the world's leading adventure riders, this latest book in the acclaimed Haynes adventure motorcycling series offers readers comprehensive insight into the most spectacular, inspiring and challenging adventure routes across the globe. For the really adventurous there are epic trans-continental routes covering thousands of miles but there are also some short, must-see trails for those not wanting to venture too far afield.

Each route is accompanied by outstanding photography and a detailed map, with additional fact boxes on local sights, tips for riding and anecdotes from personal experiences. In every case the text has been compiled by someone who has 'been there and done it', and the contributors include some of the best-known names in adventure motorcycling, people such as Kevin and Julia Sanders, Sam Manicom, Walter Colebatch, Joe Pichler and Andreas Hülsmann.

With more than 300 colour photographs and maps, The World's Great Adventure Motorcycle Routes is designed to inform, excite and inspire.

Right, in my opinion, this book is quite good for the novice adventure rider who is looking to take his 1st trip on a motorcycle to lands far far away, or just to do a little bit of off-roading somewhere nearby.
I've had a couple of trips on my own already, and even though the book didn't tell me many new things, it certainly reinforced to things I did know.
Part of the experience is kitting the bike out. Never in the book did it ever say "you must have this bit from this firm" or "you must ride this bike because..."
It was refreshing in they way that the author stated, on a few occasions, that "every bike has its own merits, and what is right for one rider may not be right for another" (I also agreed with his comments that every motorcyclist would ideally have 5 bikes each)

Overall, a good read, certainly worth 5 stars due to its non-biased opinions

This book is A4 size, with lots photos and large text. The content is not that detailed, and some of the info is quite obvious. I've read the Adenture Motorcycling Handbook by Chris Scott whihc has much better detail, and is A5 size so you can take it with you. I would still recommend this book though as a lighter read.

I have a R1200GS which I am looking to take on a lengthy European outing and this book doesn't quite hit the mark. It's nice and glossy with lots of pictures but it just feels like it is a showcase for certain manufacturers kit. I can get a free catalogue to look at that! That said, it keep me entertained for a week, but I have to say I'll selling it on, unlike a certain yellow-spined motorcycle travel book that every biker should own....
